Entry Laboratory Science Professional

Job Summary:

Entry Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in an experimental lab, or wet lab, and handle a variety of chemicals and/or potential “wet” hazards. Entry Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in laboratories where chemicals, drugs, or other materials or biological materials are tested and analyzed. This position will work with Laboratory-based translational research on brain tumors, with a focus on epigenetics of pediatric diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), high-grade glioma (HGG), and other pediatric brain tumors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with and support the PI and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions, including project planning.

• Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects

• Culturing of brain tumor cell lines.

• Conduct experiments using techniques including drug and radiation treatment of cell lines and mice, Western blot, shRNA/CRISPR-Cas, qPCR, protein/RNA/DNA extraction, immunofluorescence microscopy, and mouse dissection.

• Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research.

• Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting and communicating results.

• Attending and presenting at laboratory meetings and research conferences.

• Assisting with writing scientific manuscripts and grants.

• Assisting with lab management, including purchasing and budget maintenance.

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, cancer biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.

  • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience with the role of PI3-kinase PikG in Dictyostelium discoideum multicellular aggregation.

• Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab (e.g., cell culture, rodent models, molecular biology techniques).

• Previous internship (e.g., summer experience) or extracurricular (outside of college lab courses) experience in an academic research laboratory.

• Previous internship (e.g., summer experience) or extracurricular (outside of college lab courses) experience working with pediatric brain tumor models and/or T-cell biology.

• Previous full-time employment in an academic research lab.
