About DayOne Data Centers
DayOne Data Centers is a Singapore-headquartered global digital infrastructure platform that develops and operates next-generation data centers across Asia Pacific and Europe. Trusted by leading hyperscalers and businesses, the company engineers, builds, and operates high-capacity, AI-ready campuses with speed, scale, and reliability.
The Head of Government Relations will lead DayOne’s engagement with governments, regulators, public authorities and industry bodies across its existing and future markets. Reporting to the Head of Legal, the role will build the relationships, policy insight and advocacy needed to support market entry, data centre development and long-term operations.
This is a commercially focused leadership role. The successful candidate will translate political and regulatory developments into clear business implications, represent DayOne credibly with senior external stakeholders, and work across Legal, Development, Investment, Operations, Sustainability and country leadership to remove barriers and enable responsible growth.
Key responsibilities
Government and stakeholder engagement
- Develop and deliver a global government relations strategy aligned with DayOne’s growth priorities, investment pipeline and operating footprint.
- Build trusted, long-term relationships with national, regional and local governments, regulators, economic development agencies, utilities, planning authorities and relevant public-sector stakeholders.
- Represent DayOne in senior-level meetings, consultations, industry forums and public-policy discussions, ensuring the company is positioned as a credible and responsible long-term partner.
- Create clear stakeholder maps and engagement plans for priority markets, projects and policy issues, with defined objectives, ownership and follow-through.
- Coordinate executive engagement with government stakeholders, including briefing materials, meeting preparation, key messages and actions arising.
Market entry and development enablement
- Support market-entry and expansion activity by assessing the political, regulatory and public-sector landscape and identifying both opportunities and potential barriers.
- Partner with Development, Investments, Legal and country teams on government engagement relating to land, power, permits, infrastructure, incentives and other dependencies critical to data centre delivery.
- Help shape and communicate DayOne’s investment proposition, including economic contribution, job creation, skills development, sustainability and local community value.
- Engage relevant authorities to support efficient, transparent and compliant pathways for strategic projects without compromising DayOne’s legal, ethical or governance standards.
Policy and regulatory affairs
- Monitor and interpret political, legislative and regulatory developments affecting the data centre sector, including energy, sustainability, digital infrastructure, planning, investment, trade, taxation and workforce policy.
- Provide concise, timely advice to senior leaders on business impact, emerging risks, stakeholder positions and recommended action.
- Develop evidence-based policy positions and consultation responses in partnership with Legal, Sustainability and other subject-matter experts.
- Build effective relationships with industry associations and coalitions, using them selectively to advance shared policy priorities and strengthen DayOne’s external voice.
Governance and risk
- Establish appropriate governance for government engagement, including engagement protocols, records, reporting, third-party oversight and escalation routes.
- Ensure all activity complies with applicable lobbying, anti-bribery, anti-corruption, competition, gifts and hospitality, sanctions and disclosure requirements.
- Partner closely with the Head of Legal, Compliance and country leadership to identify and manage political, regulatory, reputational and integrity risks.
- Select and manage external advisers where required, with clear scopes, measurable outcomes and disciplined cost control.
Leadership and internal partnership
- Act as the central point of coordination for government relations across DayOne, creating consistency while recognising local market requirements.
- Build capability and awareness among senior leaders and country teams on effective, compliant engagement with public-sector stakeholders.
- Provide regular, decision-oriented reporting to the Head of Legal and executive leadership on priorities, progress, risks and outcomes.
- Build and lead a fit-for-purpose government relations model as the company grows, including future team design and regional support requirements.
Experience and qualifications
- Significant senior-level experience in government relations, public policy, regulatory affairs or a closely related field, gained in a complex, international and highly regulated environment.
- A strong track record of engaging ministers, senior officials, regulators and other public-sector decision-makers across multiple jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated experience supporting market entry, major infrastructure development, investment or other projects dependent on government and regulatory engagement.
- Strong understanding of policy-making, regulatory processes and political risk, with the judgement to separate signal from noise and focus the business on what matters.
- Experience in data centres, digital infrastructure, energy, utilities, real estate, technology, telecommunications or adjacent infrastructure sectors is strongly preferred.
- Experience operating across Europe and Asia Pacific would be advantageous; exposure to additional growth markets is welcomed.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in public policy, law, political science, economics, international relations, business or a related discipline.
Capabilities and behaviours
- Commercially minded — connects government engagement directly to business priorities and measurable outcomes.
- Trusted and credible — builds confidence with senior external and internal stakeholders and handles sensitive matters with discretion.
- Strategic and pragmatic — can shape a long-term agenda while moving quickly on immediate project needs.
- Clear communicator — distils complex policy and political issues into concise advice, compelling narratives and practical actions.
- Collaborative — works effectively across Legal, Investments, Development, Operations, Sustainability, Communications and country teams.
- High integrity — demonstrates sound judgement and holds a firm line on compliance and ethical engagement.
- Comfortable with ambiguity — operates effectively in a fast-growing international business where priorities and market conditions evolve quickly.
Measures of success
- A clear government relations strategy and stakeholder plan for each priority market and major development.
- Stronger access, credibility and trusted relationships with relevant government and regulatory stakeholders.
- Earlier identification and effective management of political, policy and regulatory risks.
- Tangible support for market entry, project delivery and operational continuity, including progress on land, power, permitting, incentives and infrastructure dependencies.
- Consistent, compliant and well-governed government engagement across the organisation.
- Concise, useful executive reporting that enables timely decisions and action.
