Testing Head

Ayr Energy is looking for a Head of Testing to lead the testing function for high-voltage power transformers. You will own the test strategy, the test laboratory and its equipment, and the qualification of test results against IEEE and customer requirements, from routine tests through type and special tests. You will work closely with quality, design, and manufacturing partners, and be the technical authority on whether a unit is ready for dispatch. This is a senior role with significant scope to shape how Ayr tests its products as the company grows.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the testing function for HV transformers, setting test plans and procedures aligned with IEEE standards, IEC and IS requirements, and customer specifications.

• Plan and oversee routine, type, and special tests, including temperature rise, short-circuit withstand, lightning impulse, switching impulse, partial discharge, and noise level tests.

• Review and approve test reports, and certify that each unit meets its design and contractual requirements before dispatch.

• Oversee test equipment, calibration schedules, and test laboratory readiness, including high-voltage and high-current test setups.

• Lead investigation of test failures, define root causes, and coordinate corrective and preventive actions with design, quality, and manufacturing partners.

• Support customer witness tests, factory acceptance tests, and third-party inspections.

• Build and develop the test team, including training, competency assessment, and safety practices for high-voltage work.

• Work with the design and engineering teams on test feedback to improve product reliability and reduce test cycle time.

• Maintain test documentation and records to support audits, customer reviews, and certification.

Qualifications and Experience

• 12 to 18 years of experience in HV transformer testing, with several years in a leadership role over a test laboratory or testing function.

• Strong working knowledge of IEEE transformer testing standards, including IEEE C57.12.00 (general requirements), C57.12.90 (test code for liquid-immersed distribution, power, and regulating transformers), and C57.152 (diagnostic field testing).

• Good understanding of IEC and IS equivalents, and the ability to reconcile differences between them in a customer specification.

• Hands-on experience with HV testing of oil-filled power transformers, including impulse testing, partial discharge measurement, and dielectric and insulation testing.

• Experience with temperature rise, short-circuit, and load loss and no-load loss measurement, and the calculations and corrections that go with them.

• Familiarity with test equipment such as impulse generators, measuring systems, partial discharge detectors, and data acquisition systems.

• Experience with test laboratory safety, calibration, and accreditation requirements.

• Strong ability to analyze test data, lead failure investigations, and communicate technical findings to customers and internal leadership.

• Experience working with customer witness tests and third-party inspection bodies.

Work Environment

Based in Prayagraj, with regular collaboration across global engineering teams, occasional interaction with customers, and visits to manufacturing partner sites as required. Ayr Energy runs a flat organizational structure that values transparency, collaboration, and innovation.
