About the role
Technical Project Manager |
Overall Function:
Reporting to the Senior Director, New Product Development, the Technical Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and delivering complex hardware and software product development projects, including ODM-partnered programs, from concept through production release. This role leads cross-functional execution across the Meyer Sound Electronics, Embedded Software, Software, SQA, and Loudspeaker engineering teams, and owns project planning, tracking, and reporting in Jira for next-generation platform programs spanning networked audio and self-powered loudspeaker systems. This is a full-time, exempt position based in Vernon, British Columbia.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end execution of assigned NPD projects, including next-generation networked audio and loudspeaker platform programs, from requirements and planning through EVT, DVT, PVT, and production release
- Manage ODM and external development partner projects, including statements of work, NRE milestones, deliverable acceptance, design reviews, sample builds, and engineering change control
- Act as the primary day-to-day interface with ODM partners, coordinating technical communication across time zones and ensuring partner deliverables meet Meyer Sound requirements for performance, quality, reliability, and compliance
- Build and maintain integrated project schedules spanning electronics, embedded software, software, SQA, loudspeaker, mechanical, and manufacturing dependencies, identifying critical path and resource conflicts early
- Own project structure in Jira, including epics, versions, workflows, boards, and dashboards; ensure teams keep work items current so that Jira reflects the true state of each project
- Coordinate integration between the Electronics, Embedded Software, Software, SQA, and Loudspeaker teams, ensuring hardware, firmware, and software deliverables converge on agreed milestones
- Partner with SQA to plan verification and validation activities, track test coverage and defect trends in Jira and TestRail, and drive release readiness decisions
- Facilitate technical design reviews, phase-gate reviews, and risk assessments; maintain risk, issue, and decision logs and drive mitigations to closure
- Report project status, schedule, NRE spend, and budget to NPD leadership and stakeholders through clear, concise updates and Confluence documentation
- Manage requirements and scope changes with product management and engineering leads, evaluating impact on schedule, cost, and quality
- Coordinate project deliverables for regulatory and cybersecurity compliance, including certification schedules and documentation, with the responsible engineering owners
- Work with Supply Chain, Test & Manufacturing Engineering, and Sustaining & Reliability to support component availability, pilot builds, and transfer to production
- Align project milestones with the product release train and support portfolio-level resource planning across concurrent projects
- Use AI tools and agents (such as Claude, Copilot, and Rovo) to automate Jira hygiene, status reporting, meeting summaries, risk identification, schedule analysis, and ODM communication, and share effective AI workflows with the broader NPD organization
- Drive continuous improvement of NPD project management practices, templates, and Jira standards across the organization
- Travel to ODM partner and supplier sites as needed
Required Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 7+ years of experience in hardware or embedded product development, including at least 4 years managing technical projects across hardware, firmware, and software teams
- Demonstrated experience managing ODM, JDM, or contract design partners, including SOW definition, NRE milestones, and deliverable acceptance
- Working knowledge of electronics, embedded firmware, and software development lifecycles, including EVT/DVT/PVT build phases and release processes
- Advanced proficiency with Jira (project configuration, JQL, dashboards) and Confluence; experience with TestRail or similar test management tools
- Proven ability to build and manage integrated schedules, track dependencies, and manage risk across multiple concurrent projects
- Comfortable with both Agile and phase-gate methods, and able to apply the right approach to hardware and software work
- Strong technical judgment, with the ability to understand trade-offs and constructively challenge assumptions with engineering teams and partners
- Demonstrated hands-on use of AI tools to accelerate project management work, such as automating reporting, querying and analyzing Jira data, drafting documentation, and building simple agents or workflows, with sound judgment on verifying AI-generated output
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presenting status and risks to senior leadership
- Ability to work independently, lead without direct authority, and keep cross-functional teams aligned
- Ability to travel up to 15%, including international travel to ODM partner sites
- Experience with professional audio, loudspeaker, amplifier, or networked audio (AES67, Milan/AVB) products
- PMP, PgMP, or Agile certification (CSM, PMI-ACP) preferred
- Familiarity with product compliance (safety, EMC) and cybersecurity requirements such as the EU Cyber Resilience Act preferred
