About the role
TriasMD is the management platform behind DISC Surgery Centers, a multi-site ambulatory surgery center organization with seven active centers across California and Florida, backed by Chicago Pacific Founders, a healthcare-focused private equity firm. Corporate accounting runs on Sage Intacct across seven center entities and three corporate entities, each analyzed, reconciled and reported every month.
We are rebuilding the accounting team around specialist ownership and a 15-day close. This Senior Accountant role owns the net patient service revenue and accounts receivable functions end to end, ensuring accurate accounting, timely reconciliations, and appropriate review of related activities, and it will review the work of a staff accountant and an offshore accountant. The position reports directly to the Director of Accounting and is based in our Newport Beach office.
This position will own net patient service revenue and accounts receivable for every center. It is the largest and most judgment-heavy area on our balance sheet: surgical case reimbursement from commercial payers, Medicare, workers compensation and personal injury, recognized under ASC 606 net of contractual adjustments and implicit price concessions. Billing is outsourced, so revenue is validated before it is booked, and you will own that validation.
What You Will Own
- Revenue validation before booking. Each month, test the billing vendor's revenue file against case volume from our practice management system, by center and payer, before anything posts. Explain variances, out-of-period adjustments, and cases billed without a contractual write-off.
- Net revenue recognition. Record net patient service revenue under ASC 606 across all centers, including the transaction price net of contractual adjustments and implicit price concessions.
- Contractual allowances and reserves. Own the payer-level contractual allowance and bad debt reserve methodology, including the personal injury realization policy, and validate it with hindsight testing against actual collections.
- AR reconciliations. Reconcile gross receivables, contractual allowances, reserves, unapplied cash and credit balances to the billing system every month, and resolve differences to root cause.
- Partnership with revenue cycle. Work directly with our revenue cycle team and billing vendor on payer behavior, denials, cash posting and corrections, and turn what happens operationally into the right entry.
- Audit and analytics. Prepare revenue and receivable schedules, roll-forwards and methodology support for the auditors, and center and payer analytics that a non-accountant can follow.
Additional Responsibilities
Reviews the work of a staff accountant and an offshore accountant, including prepaid, accrual, intercompany and cash reconciliations, and backs up the close where needed.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with prior experience/responsibility for healthcare provider revenue or receivables strongly preferred. Extensive experience with receivables and revenue will be considered
- Hands-on experience with net patient service revenue and receivable valuation under ASC 606 strongly preferred, including payer contractual adjustments and implicit price concessions
- Provider-side experience at an ambulatory surgery center, hospital, physician group or MSO
- Working knowledge of how charges, payments, adjustments and denials flow from a billing system into the general ledger
- Experience building or maintaining a reserve methodology and testing it against actual results
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities, including working with transaction-level data sets of tens of thousands of rows
- The ability to support and defend accounting estimates, and to proactively escalate when the underlying support does not hold
Other Relevant Experience
- CPA license
- Ambulatory surgery center experience specifically
- Workers compensation or personal injury reimbursement
- Sage Intacct, HST or a comparable ASC billing system
- Private equity backed or multi-site platform experience
What Success Looks Like
- First 90 days. You run the monthly revenue validation before booking, can explain how net revenue and net receivables are derived at each center, and have documented where the current method does not hold.
- First 6 months. The contractual and reserve methodology is payer-based and documented, hindsight testing runs on a set cadence, revenue and AR reconcile to the billing system, and revenue closes on the calendar without rework.
Work Arrangement and Pay
Onsite at our corporate office, 3501 Jamboree Road, Newport Beach, five days a week, with additional hours during month-end close.
The base salary range for this role is $100,000 to $110,000, set by experience and qualifications, plus our standard benefits package.
