Shape the future of identity security across a complex, connected enterprise.
Identity is at the heart of modern cyber security. From Zero Trust and privileged access to identity governance and cloud connectivity, the architecture decisions made today shape how securely and seamlessly people access the systems and services they rely on.
At Western Sydney University, we're looking for a Senior Solution Architect, Identity & Access Management (IDAM) to bring technical depth, architectural leadership and a forward-thinking approach to our evolving digital environment. This is an opportunity to influence strategic technology initiatives across a large, complex organisation, designing secure, scalable and sustainable identity solutions that make a real difference.
The Opportunity
You'll lead solution architecture across a portfolio of strategic programs and projects, with a primary focus on Identity and Access Management and a secondary focus on Azure infrastructure and networking. Working within our Enterprise Architecture practice and alongside the Portfolio Management Office, you'll turn complex business and technology needs into clear architectural direction, practical designs and implementation roadmaps.
Your focus will be the University's identity ecosystem, spanning Microsoft Entra ID, Okta SSO/MFA, Saviynt Identity Governance and Administration (IGA), CyberArk Privileged Access Management (PAM), identity provisioning and lifecycle management, authentication, authorisation, federation and Zero Trust architecture.
You'll assess emerging requirements, challenge design assumptions and evaluate architectural options to deliver solutions that balance security, usability, cost, delivery priorities and long-term sustainability. You'll have the opportunity to influence how identity capabilities evolve across the University, ensuring security is embedded by design rather than added as an afterthought.
You'll also bring architectural guidance across Azure infrastructure and networking, including landing zones, hybrid and private connectivity, network segmentation, infrastructure security and cloud platform governance. Working in partnership with Enterprise, Cloud, Security, Integration, Data and Solution Architects, you'll connect identity, cloud and infrastructure design to deliver cohesive enterprise-wide outcomes.
This role is ideal for an architect who enjoys solving complex problems, influencing technology direction and working collaboratively with delivery teams to turn architecture into outcomes. You'll help shape reusable patterns, strengthen architectural capability and guide strategic initiatives from design through to delivery.
What Success Looks Like:
Shape secure, scalable target-state architectures and implementation roadmaps that translate enterprise strategy into practical technology outcomes.
Lead architectural design across key identity platforms and capabilities, including Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Saviynt and CyberArk.
Embed Zero Trust and secure-by-design principles into identity, access and supporting cloud architecture.
Turn complex technical and business requirements into clear design options and evidence-based recommendations, balancing security, risk, cost and delivery needs.
Influence stakeholders, architects, delivery teams and technology partners to achieve aligned, sustainable architectural outcomes.
Provide clear architectural direction throughout project delivery, proactively managing design decisions, risks, dependencies and trade-offs.
Strengthen the University's architecture practice through reusable standards, reference architectures, design patterns and knowledge sharing.
Please refer to the Position Description for full details.
About You
You're an experienced architect who can move confidently between deep technical conversations and strategic decision-making. You understand how identity, security and cloud capabilities fit together, and can turn complex requirements into architecture that is secure, practical and built to last.
Postgraduate qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related discipline, or equivalent extensive experience.
Demonstrated experience as a Senior Solution Architect, Identity Architect, Security Architect, Cloud Architect or in a comparable role within a complex enterprise environment.
Strong hands-on architectural expertise across Identity and Access Management, including authentication, authorisation, federation, identity provisioning and lifecycle management, IGA and PAM.
Experience developing target-state architectures, solution designs and implementation roadmaps, with the ability to connect technical decisions to broader enterprise strategy.
Experience working within an Enterprise Architecture practice, applying architecture principles and governance while collaborating across technology domains.
The ability to assess competing design options, communicate technical trade-offs and provide recommendations that balance security, business needs, risk and delivery outcomes.
Strong stakeholder engagement, facilitation and communication skills, with the confidence to influence without direct authority.
Experience using enterprise architecture repositories such as Orbus Infinity, LeanIX or equivalent.
Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Saviynt, CyberArk and Azure infrastructure and networking will be highly relevant. Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architecture or Security Architecture certifications, Microsoft Azure certifications, and experience in large or federated organisations will also be advantageous.
