Software Advisory Engineer

Position Summary: A Software Developer/Engineer at Vecima contributes to designing, developing, testing, and maintaining Vecima product software, with a focus on Linux-based software that is the control plane for Vecima's products. Products created include but are not limited to: broadband video processing, DOCSIS data and video transmission, fiber PON access and content delivery systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Engage with an Agile scrum team to:

• Design the system software
• Plan sprint work
• Execute chosen work
• Review teammates’ work
• Actively contribute to retrospectives for continuous improvement
• Participate in grooming/refining the Jira product backlog
• Estimate effort and time for upcoming work items
• Participate in the mentoring of team members
• Improve team’s knowledge and skills through collaboration and pair programming
• Produce appropriate system documentation and artifacts stored on Confluence
• Push code for review to central Git/Gerrit server regularly
• Work with field teams to address customer issues. Enhance system software to address customers’ paint points.

VECIMA SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Expertise in one or more programming/scripting languages used at Vecima.
• Go-to expert in one or several area(s) of the codebase, with the ability to work in any area.
• Delivers complex software that is consistently well-baked and error-free.
• Is highly knowledgeable about various software programming processes.
• Advanced knowledge of networking (Ethernet, IPv4/v6, DHCP, DNS, SSH, SSL, HTTP(s), switching and routing
• Expertise in overall architecture (daemons, applications, libraries) for the product/project to which they are assigned
• Is highly knowledgeable about software testing processes and tools.
• Understands testing approaches and uses quality metrics to identify gaps.
• Works with their team to recommend improvements that are in accordance with accepted Vecima testing frameworks, processes, and complement organization-wide testing strategies (i.e. those used by the Verification Group/TestLab).
