The Role
The Senior Technician, Layer 1 designs, implements, operates, and improves enterprise infrastructure across compute, storage, and networking. This role takes an end-to-end approach to infrastructure, ensuring that server, virtualization, storage, and network platforms operate as a cohesive, resilient, secure, and supportable environment. The Senior Technician is responsible for the infrastructure lifecycle from architecture and capacity planning through deployment, automation, monitoring, troubleshooting, optimization, and lifecycle management. While engineers may have deeper expertise in one infrastructure discipline, they are expected to develop working proficiency across all three domains and troubleshoot issues across traditional technology boundaries.
Travel Requirements:
This role will be situated onsite in Phoenix, AZ.
Responsibilities Include:
Compute & Virtualization
- Deploy, configure, and support enterprise server and virtualization infrastructure.
- Support physical and virtual compute platforms, including hypervisors, operating-system integration, clustering, and high-availability configurations.
- Perform firmware, driver, hypervisor, and infrastructure lifecycle management.
- Analyze utilization, performance, availability, and capacity to identify optimization opportunities.
- Diagnose complex compute and virtualization issues across hardware and software layers.
Storage & Data Infrastructure
- Deploy, configure, and manage enterprise block, file, and object storage platforms.
- Support SAN/NAS infrastructure, storage fabrics, multipathing, replication, snapshots, and associated data-protection technologies.
- Monitor storage capacity, latency, throughput, availability, and overall platform health.
- Plan storage growth and technology refreshes based on capacity, performance, resiliency, and business requirements.
- Troubleshoot storage issues across hosts, fabrics, arrays, and dependent applications.
Networking
- Deploy, configure, and troubleshoot data-center network infrastructure.
- Support switching, routing, VLANs, DNS/DHCP dependencies, IP addressing, link aggregation, redundancy, and related network services.
- Understand network segmentation, security controls, load-balancing concepts, and application connectivity requirements.
- Monitor network performance, availability, capacity, and resiliency.
- Troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues across physical and virtual network layers.
Integrated Infrastructure Engineering
- Engineer solutions that account for dependencies between compute, storage, and network platforms rather than optimizing individual technology silos.
- Lead technical troubleshooting of complex incidents spanning multiple infrastructure domains.
- Develop infrastructure standards, reference architectures, configuration standards, and engineering documentation.
- Partner with architecture, security, cloud, application, database, and operations teams on infrastructure solutions.
- Participate in data-center technology refreshes, migrations, consolidations, and modernization initiatives.
Physical Infrastructure Support
- Install, label, test, and maintain copper and fiber optic cabling.
- Perform rack and stack activities for servers, network devices, storage systems, and other IT equipment.
- Install cable management systems and ensure adherence to data center standards.

- Replace failed components such as power supplies, drives, fans, and transceivers according to documented procedures.
- Support equipment decommissioning and disposal processes.
- Maintain accurate inventory and asset tracking records.
Operational Support
- Respond to data center service requests and incidents within established SLAs.
- Perform routine inspections of racks, cages, cabinets, and cabling systems.
- Support site audits and compliance requirements.

- 10-15 years of experience in a data center, telecommunications, or infrastructure environment.
