About the role
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct structural analysis for ICON's building product configurations across building types and market applications, including lateral and gravity load design, load path verification, and connection detailing for the ICON Wall System.
- Own the structural ruleset and calculation framework for an assigned scope (e.g., a building type, market configuration, or component family), incorporating applicable codes (ACI, ASCE 7, TMS) and ICON-specific material and print-process constraints, and resolving conflicts among competing structural inputs within that scope.
- Independently scope structural test requirements for assigned development questions, direct their execution with the Building Regulatory Affairs testing team, and set the pass/fail and performance criteria structural findings are judged against.
- Own the documentation approach and quality bar for assigned structural scope — authoring standards, standard details, and calculation packages that Software, and downstream product teams build and validate against without follow-up clarification.
- Support defining structural requirements and providing technical input for BuildOS structural features, reviewing implementation against the intended structural logic.
- Navigate the full development lifecycle — analysis, requirements, testing direction, and documentation — independently for assigned structural scope, judging which structural findings justify a reusable rule or standard, and communicating workstream priorities within the product roadmap to the product owner and department leadership.
- Identify structural edge cases and gaps surfaced by assigned development work; document findings and propose resolutions to the Product Owner for prioritization.
- Maintain a current workplan for assigned structural analysis and documentation initiatives in Jira or equivalent tools; surface structural risks, dependencies, and timeline pressures to the Product Owner and department leadership before they become blockers.
- Lead structural input on high-visibility cross-functional work with Software and Hardware — design tooling and print-process constraints — contributing technical specifications and reviewing implementation for structural accuracy.
- Coordinate with other domain engineers on structural inputs to design documentation and requirements intended for Applied Solutions and other downstream teams.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), or Structural Engineer (SE) license where the jurisdiction distinguishes it, in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- Eight or more years of structural engineering experience; six or more years with a Master's degree.
- Experience working with concrete and/or masonry systems for vertical building or infrastructure construction.
- Working knowledge of ACI, ASCE 7, and TMS design codes and their application across building types and jurisdictions.
- Proven ability to translate structural analysis into clear calculations, documentation, and technical requirements that other disciplines can build against.
- Proficiency with structural analysis software (CSI Suite — ETABS and SAP2000, or equivalent) and calculation documentation platforms (MathCAD or equivalent).
- Experience supporting structural design across multiple building types, occupancy classes, or geographic and climate contexts.
- Proficiency with Revit for structural documentation and cross-team coordination.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with productized building systems, modular, prefabricated, or 3D-printed construction methods.
- Exposure to software-enabled structural design workflows or engineering logic automation in a product development context.
- Background in computational design, numerical methods, or structural programming.
- Familiarity with embodied carbon or life cycle assessment considerations in structural material systems.
