About the role
Why Valtech? We’re the experience innovation company - a trusted partner to the world’s most recognized brands. To our people we offer growth opportunities, a values-driven culture, international careers and the chance to shape the future of experience.
The opportunity
At Valtech, you’ll find an environment designed for continuous learning, meaningful impact, and professional growth. Whether you're pioneering new digital solutions, challenging conventional thinking or building the next generation of customer experiences, your work will help transform industries.
We are proud of:
- The work we do and the innovation we drive
- Our values of share, care and dare
- A workplace culture that fosters creativity, diversity and autonomy
- Our borderless, global framework, which enables seamless collaboration
The role
You’ll be the person a squad trusts to make test automation reliable. You design and own the Playwright framework, work closely with developers and the client, and use AI agents as a normal part of how you build and maintain tests. You also help the engineers around you get better at all of it. You work independently, plan your own work, and influence how your team and the wider QA community operate.
Role responsibilities
- Design, build and roll out Playwright (TypeScript/JavaScript) automation frameworks, and keep them stable as suites grow
- Test APIs and microservice-based systems alongside the UI
- Run BDD collaboratively with analysts, developers and the client
- Diagnose flaky and intermittent failures, and find root causes instead of adding retries
- Use AI coding agents to speed up test design, authoring and maintenance, and rigorously verify what they produce
- Help define how AI-assisted and agent-driven testing is done on your project, including instruction files, reusable prompts and review gates
- Extend automation coverage into mobile as the project needs, with support
- Coach colleagues and share what works in the QA community
- Explain quality risk and technical trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders
Must have qualifications
- 5+ years in test automation, including 2+ years of hands-on Playwright with TypeScript/JavaScript in production
- Strong command of Playwright’s core model: fixtures, locator strategy, auto-waiting, network interception and mocking, trace-based debugging, parallel execution
- Experience testing responsive and mobile-web behavior with Playwright (device emulation, viewports, touch, cross-browser)
- Proven experience defining and implementing a framework architecture, not only extending one
- API automation and microservices testing, with HTTP and network inspection tools
- CI/CD experience with any major pipeline tool
- Practical BDD experience in an Agile team
- A working AI-assisted practice: you can show how you generate tests with AI, and how you catch tests that pass but prove nothing
- The confidence to question and challenge from a testing perspective, and the curiosity to become a subject-matter expert quickly
Nice to have qualifications
- Hands-on native mobile automation on iOS and/or Android, ideally Appium with WebdriverIO
- Experience with another automation stack (Selenium-based or a non-JS framework)
- Experience building or orchestrating multi-step AI agent workflows for test generation, execution or triage
- Performance or cloud testing exposure
- Mentoring, conference talks, or blogging
