About the role
Job Summary
At OUTFRONT Media, a leader in Digital Out of Home (DOOH) advertising, we are blending cutting-edge technology with our nationwide network of digital billboards and transit displays to create innovative solutions that push the boundaries of what is possible. We are looking for an experienced Senior Manager, Data Engineering to lead and grow our Data Engineering team within the Data & Analytics organization.
This is a player-coach role. You will manage and develop a team of Data Engineers, including early-career engineers, while staying hands-on in architecture, code, and technical reviews. You will run day-to-day delivery with strong Agile and product discipline in Jira and the Atlassian suite, and be accountable for the reliability, scalability, and business impact of the data pipelines and models your team owns. You will also lead how the team builds, bringing deep fluency in AI-assisted engineering (Claude Code, Kiro) and practical experience with AWS Amazon Bedrock and Snowflake Cortex AI, including Cortex Code.
What You'll Do
- Manage, mentor, and grow a team of Data Engineers, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and career development, with a focus on developing early-career talent.
- Set engineering standards for the team in pipelines, data modeling, testing, CI/CD, observability, and code review, and hold the team to them.
- Own the team's backlog and delivery plan, prioritizing work with business and analytics partners and treating data as a product with clear users and outcomes.
- Lead Agile delivery (sprint planning, backlog refinement, estimation, retrospectives) and run the team's work in Jira, Confluence, and the broader Atlassian ecosystem, using delivery metrics to improve predictability and give stakeholders clear visibility.
- Stay hands-on: design and build scalable pipelines, data models, and warehouse structures using AWS, Snowflake, dbt, and Fivetran, and take on the most complex technical work alongside the team.
- Own and improve the backend data foundation that powers dashboards, reporting, self-service analytics in Sigma Computing, and data science, optimizing for speed, reliability, cost, and maintainability.
- Champion AI-assisted engineering with tools such as Claude Code and Kiro by establishing practical workflows and guardrails, coaching engineers, and measuring the impact on productivity and quality.
- Build AI-enabled data solutions on AWS Amazon Bedrock and Snowflake Cortex (AI functions, Cortex Analyst, Cortex Search, Cortex Code), following guidelines for privacy, security, access, cost, and human review.
- Partner with analysts, product owners, and business stakeholders to define KPIs and requirements, and translate them into scalable data products.
- Enforce best practices for data quality, documentation, and reliability, including monitoring, incident response, and cost management for Snowflake and AWS.
Experience
- 8+ years of experience designing and implementing modern data warehouse and data engineering solutions, with advanced SQL and Python and robust ETL/ELT pipelines.
- 3+ years of experience leading or managing data engineers, while remaining hands-on in architecture and code (player-coach).
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS, Snowflake, dbt, and Fivetran, including data modeling in Snowflake and transformation workflows in dbt.
- Strong experience running Agile delivery and applying product management practices (roadmaps, prioritization, outcome-based planning) to data work.
- Expert-level knowledge of Jira, Confluence, and the Atlassian suite, including boards, workflows, dashboards, and automation.
- Demonstrated, hands-on fluency with AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code and Kiro, with real examples of accelerating delivery while maintaining quality and security.
- Working experience with AWS Amazon Bedrock and Snowflake Cortex (including Cortex Code) to build or enable generative AI solutions.
- Familiarity with BI and self-service platforms, ideally Sigma Computing (Tableau and/or Power BI a plus), sufficient to guide data models and semantic layers that support reporting.
Technical Expertise
- Deep expertise in modern data and analytics engineering, including CI/CD, testing, orchestration, infrastructure as code, and observability.
- Agentic and AI-assisted development workflows, including prompt and context design, spec-driven development, and review practices that keep AI-generated code secure and maintainable.
- Generative AI on AWS and Snowflake: Bedrock (foundation models, knowledge bases, agents, guardrails) and Cortex (AI functions, Analyst, Search, Cortex Code).
- Strong understanding of data modeling, semantic layer design, data governance, quality, security, and privacy.
- Knowledge of identity management, data privacy, audience targeting, cross-device graphs, and digital advertising technology (ad serving, analytics, DSP, DMP, SSP, QA, and targeting).
Leadership and Soft Skills
- Proven people leader who develops and retains strong engineering talent, coaches early-career engineers, and gives clear, candid feedback.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, aligning technical and business stakeholders on priorities and trade-offs.
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Strong business acumen, a product mindset, and the judgment to separate hype from value in a fast-moving AI landscape.
Education
Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science or equivalent experience preferred.
