About the role
What You’ll Do
- Design and build interactive, performant web frontends using modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Next.js, Shopify Hydrogen/Remix, etc.)
- Develop and maintain scalable, cost-efficient backend services and APIs (Node.js, Python, etc.) on AWS (Lambda, S3, EventBridge, SQS, etc.)
- Build and extend our Shopify platform: custom apps, Shopify Functions (discounts and more), checkout customizations, and Admin/Storefront API integrations
- Own pricing and inventory logic in Shopify across Markets and Catalogs — price vs. compare-at price, multi-currency, multi-region availability, and inventory levels
- Integrate with third-party APIs and platforms (e.g., Stripe, ERP, PIM, search and recommendation engines)
- Work with open-source libraries to create experimental and production-ready features
- Prototype and test AI-driven features
- Own features end-to-end — from technical design and architecture through testing, deployment, and monitoring
- Contribute to and improve our CI/CD deployment pipelines
- Write and maintain the right mix of unit, functional, and end-to-end tests
- Understand our business and engineering processes, and look for ways to improve and automate them
- Make every deliverable a step toward the team’s longer-term technical vision, rather than a one-off solution
- Mentor junior developers through pairing, code reviews, and knowledge sharing — taking the time to explain what you know rather than trying to do everything yourself
- Stay hands-on and experimental — we’re a team that loves trying new ideas fast
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in software development, ideally across both frontend and backend
- Strong, hands-on experience with Shopify (Admin and Storefront GraphQL APIs, metafields, webhooks, checkout)
- Good understanding of Shopify Functions, particularly for discounts
- Good understanding of pricing and inventory in Shopify — Markets and Catalogs, price and compare-at price, inventory locations and levels
- Strong command of JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frameworks (React, Next.js, Vue)
- Proven backend experience with Node.js, Python, or similar — and solid API architecture skills (REST/GraphQL)
- Good understanding of AWS services (Lambda, S3, EventBridge, SQS, etc.) and event-driven architectures
- Good understanding of a typical deployment pipeline (CI/CD, environments, release and rollback)
- Good understanding of different testing approaches — unit, functional, and end-to-end testing
- A habit of building solutions that are cost-efficient and designed to scale
- Big-picture thinking — you connect each step you take to where the team is trying to get to
- Strong communication skills — able to clearly describe a feature, and walk through an entire tech stack architecture, for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Highly motivated and proactive — you spot problems and opportunities and take initiative without waiting to be asked
- A collaborative mindset — you enjoy working alongside other developers and mentoring junior team members
- Experience integrating AI tools (e.g., OpenAI, Google, Meta) into user-facing products
- Passion for clean, scalable code and rapid prototyping
Bonus Points
- Experience with Shopify Hydrogen and Oxygen
- Experience building custom Shopify apps
- Experience with bundle products and customized/configurable products in Shopify
- Experience using Shopify to sell to businesses (B2B) and with Shopify POS
- Experience with WebAR, 3D (Three.js, A-Frame)
- Familiarity with vector databases or AI embeddings for semantic search
- Contributions to open-source projects or technical writing
- Interest in generative AI, LLMs, or real-time computer vision
