Our mission is inspired people creating loyal customers, and our core values of integrity, professionalism, and accountability guide every project. Many of our customer relationships span decades.
The Role
The Safety Manager and Compliance Officer leads Hyder's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Program. You will provide technical safety and health support to field and corporate teams, develop safety programs and training, keep Hyder in compliance with federal and state regulations, and manage the company stormwater program. The role combines office work with regular visits to all active Hyder job sites. The responsibilities below are a high-level summary of the full role profile.
What You'll Do
• Lead the EH&S Program and promote a strong safety culture, including worker wellbeing and mental health awareness.
• Maintain the corporate EH&S Plan and required written safety programs; chair the company safety committee.
• Support project teams with Site-Specific Safety Programs, Job Hazard Analyses, and risk mitigation planning.
• Conduct recurring field audits, oversee subcontractor safety compliance, and exercise stop-work authority for imminent hazards.
• Lead new-hire and site-specific safety orientations and coordinate EH&S training company-wide.
• Lead incident and near-miss investigations and corrective actions; serve as Hyder's primary contact during OSHA inspections.
• Manage workers' compensation monitoring and the return-to-work and modified duty program.
• Manage the Stormwater Compliance Program, including SWMP development and stormwater inspections.
• Maintain OSHA recordkeeping (Forms 300, 300A, and 301), track EMR, and report safety performance metrics to leadership.
• Represent Hyder with AGC and manage participation in the OSHA CHASE Program.
What You Bring
• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of construction safety experience.
• OSHA 510 and 500 trainer certifications, or ability to obtain within one year.
• Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and materials and their associated hazards.
• Proficiency with Procore, safety inspection applications, and Microsoft 365.
• Clear communicator and trainer who can build relationships with field crews, subcontractors, and regulators.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly to project sites.
• Preferred: CHST, CSP, or similar certification; stormwater inspector certification.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This role splits time between the office and active construction sites. Site work involves climbing ladders, stairs, and scaffolding; walking and standing on uneven surfaces; and exposure to outdoor conditions including heat, cold, and high altitude. The role requires lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally. Reasonable accommodations are available for qualified individuals.
Benefits
Accrued PTO (additional time after 5 years), 8½ paid holidays, 401(k), health and dental insurance, FSA and HSA options, supplemental insurance, short- and long-term disability, mileage reimbursement for job-site travel, and on-site fitness and shower facilities.
