POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the VP of R&D, the Product Manager will help build the hearing company’s prescription hearing aid portfolio from the ground up. This is a hands-on individual contributor role for a product builder who will work face-to-face with R&D, Clinical, Regulatory, Quality, Operations, Marketing, and Sales to define, test, refine, and bring new hearing devices to market. The Product Manager will be deeply involved in daily execution, including making product decisions, testing concepts and prototypes, gathering feedback, prioritizing requirements, and helping the team determine what works and what needs to change. Success requires prescription hearing aid experience, sound product judgment, resourcefulness, and a willingness to solve problems alongside the team without relying on established products, legacy processes, or large support teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Daily Product Leadership and Execution:
- Own day-to-day product definition, decisions, roadmap, and priorities for assigned prescription hearing devices and accessories.
- Work side-by-side with R&D during development, prototype reviews, testing, troubleshooting, and product decisions.
- Make timely trade-offs involving audiological performance, customer value, usability, technical feasibility, cost, timing, quality, and risk.
- Maintain clear product briefs, requirements, use cases, priorities, and decision documentation that keeps development moving.
Customer and Industry Insight:
- Bring firsthand knowledge of prescription hearing care into product decisions.
- Engage audiologists, hearing care professionals, patients, and channel partners to identify unmet needs and test ideas.
- Understand the challenges created by established industry products and workflows and identify opportunities to solve them differently.
- Monitor current and emerging competitors without assuming legacy practices are the right answer.
Testing, Launch, and Improvement:
- Participate directly in prototype evaluation, field testing, market trials, and rapid learning cycles.
- Identify issues early and help the team test, learn, and determine practical solutions.
- Coordinate launch readiness for devices, accessories, packaging, labeling, documentation, training, and supporting materials.
- Monitor product quality, adoption, customer feedback, revenue, margin, and other KPIs and drive post-launch improvements.
Marginal Job Functions:
- Complete required training and ongoing education.
- Perform other duties and startup initiatives as assigned.
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, audiology, marketing, or a related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Advanced degree in business, engineering, audiology, or a related field preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years in product management, product development, audiology, clinical, engineering, sales, service, or another product-facing role within the prescription hearing aid industry.
- Direct experience helping develop, launch, fit, support, or commercialize prescription hearing aids required.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with technical teams from early concept through testing and launch.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work on-site in Minnetonka, MN and collaborate face-to-face with R&D and cross-functional teams during daily product development.
- Deep understanding of prescription hearing aids, fitting workflows, hearing care professionals, patients, and industry pain points.
- Ability to challenge legacy approaches constructively and develop practical alternatives.
- Working knowledge of regulated medical-device development, quality, and launch-readiness requirements.
- Flexibility to collaborate across global time zones.
Travel Requirements:
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% for customer research, product testing, launches, trade shows, clinical visits, and collaboration with global teams.
