About the role
Eaton’s Electrical, Protection, Control and Solutions (PCS) division is currently seeking a PCB Layout Designer III. This role will be located in Moon Township, PA, and relocation assistance is available. Additionally, a hybrid work model (3 onsite / 2 remote) is available for this onsite role.
Reporting to the Manager, as a member of the Protection, Control & Solutions (PCS) Design Services Team, this role will independently create and maintain printed circuit board layouts for solid-state and hybrid circuit breaker applications using Altium Designer. The PCB Layout Designer will translate approved schematics, component information, electrical requirements, and mechanical constraints into manufacturable PCB layouts and complete production-ready fabrication and assembly documentation.
Job Responsibilities
A. Independently create printed circuit board layouts, including component placement, routing, stack-up implementation, and design-rule application using Altium Designer.
B. Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers to translate approved schematics and design requirements into production-ready PCB layouts.
C. Generate and maintain complete PCB design documentation packages, including fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, bills of materials, Gerber/ODB++ files, assembly data, and other technical documentation required for production.
D. Implement engineer-approved electrical, safety, EMI/EMC, thermal, and mechanical requirements within PCB layouts and participate in design reviews to verify conformance.
E. Evaluate PCB layouts for manufacturability, assembly, testing, reliability, and cost effectiveness, incorporating feedback from fabrication and assembly partners as appropriate.
F. Create and validate schematic symbols, PCB footprints, and 3D component models using established component-library standards.
G. Support mechanical integration of printed circuit boards by generating and maintaining 3D models and ECAD/MCAD interface data.
H. Apply established PCB design rules, IPC guidelines, and internal design standards, and recommend improvements based on lessons learned and supplier feedback.
I. Support engineering changes by revising PCB layouts and associated documentation in accordance with engineering change and product lifecycle processes.
J. Participate in PCB design reviews and provide recommendations related to layout, manufacturability, reliability, documentation quality, and production readiness.
K. Coordinate with PCB fabrication and assembly suppliers to resolve layout, documentation, and manufacturing issues.
L. Maintain PCB design files, documentation, and revision control in accordance with established engineering procedures.
M. Support prototype builds, board bring-up activities, and troubleshooting by providing PCB layout and documentation expertise.
Basic Qualifications
• Associate’s Degree in Electronic Design, Electronics Technology, Engineering Technology, Drafting, ECAD, or related technical discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on PCB layout/design experience, including component placement, routing, and production-release documentation. Internships and Co-Op experience may count toward this requirement.
• Experience using Altium Designer or another professional PCB layout/ECAD platform, with the ability to transition to Altium Designer.
• Experience developing PCB fabrication and assembly documentation for production.
