About the role
Qube Research & Technologies (QRT) is a global quantitative and systematic investment manager, operating in all liquid asset classes across the world. We are a technology- and data-driven group implementing a scientific approach to investing. Combining data, research, technology, and trading expertise has shaped our collaborative mindset, which enables us to solve the most complex challenges. QRT’s culture of innovation continuously drives our ambition to deliver high-quality returns for our investors.
Your future role within QRT:
QRT is expanding its global Network Operations capability to provide first-class 24/7 operational support for critical global network infrastructure and is seeking a Cloud SME within the Network SRE team. The successful candidate will act as the subject matter expert for cloud networking within the Cloud Network SRE team. In this role, you will bridge traditional network operations and advanced Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices for AWS network services and the wider hybrid network environment.
You will be responsible for helping manage and maintain QRT’s cloud, on-prem and network automation platforms. QRT operates with an Infrastructure as Code (IaC) mindset, so you will be expected to demonstrate experience operating complex infrastructure at scale through automation, controlled releases and robust change governance.
You will work closely with Network Engineering, Network Automation, Platform Engineering, Research, trading support and external vendor teams to drive continuous improvement, observability, self-healing automation, security, availability and reliability across our global hybrid cloud, WAN, Internet, datacentre and low-latency network footprint, while spearheading the team’s strategic roadmap and backlog delivery.
Responsibilities
Cloud Network Reliability
- Drive high-tier support and incident response for complex cloud and hybrid network incidents, coordinating with AWS and network vendors where required. Conduct thorough post-incident reviews and root-cause analyses, using findings to improve resilience, monitoring, automation and capacity planning.
- Serve as the definitive technical SME for the newly formed Cloud Network SRE team, collaborating closely with engineering, platform, and support teams to continuously improve service delivery.
- Drive high-tier support and incident response for complex hybrid (cloud and on-premises) network incidents. Conduct thorough post-incident reviews (PIRs) and root-cause analyses (RCAs) to prevent recurrence.
Strategic Roadmap & Agile Delivery
- Lead the team’s strategic technical roadmap, creating and tracking against SLI/SLO targets, recurring incidents, Incident/RCA findings, capacity trends and long-term reliability/platform goals into actionable initiatives.
- Refine, prioritize, and manage the team backlog, translating strategic objectives into structured tasks integrated into regular agile sprint cycles.
- Collaborate with Network Engineering to transition new AWS network services, such as regional AWS Direct Connect deployments, into production operations with appropriate monitoring, documentation and support readiness.
Observability, Automation, & Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Lead the creation and continuous improvement of monitoring dashboards, alerting and observability frameworks for cloud network services, alert prioritisation, trend/correlation analysis, fast fault detection and telemetry-driven incident response.
- Partner tightly with Network Automation and Platform Engineering teams to automate high-frequency operational tasks through automation, CI/CD, GitOps or orchestration where appropriate, reducing toil and enabling self-healing or event-driven remediation where practical.
- Oversee network configuration changes managed via Terraform and related automation tooling, ensuring peer review, controlled release/rollback, robust change control and alignment to internal architecture standards.
Operational Governance & Vendor Partnership
- Conduct regular service performance reviews with AWS technical/account teams and relevant network vendors to review recurring issues, support deep-dive investigations, align on roadmap features and ensure contracted SLAs and internal SLOs are met or exceeded.
- Create and maintain robust operational documentation, architecture diagrams, and runbooks to drive down Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR).
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a Site Reliability Engineering, Network Engineering or Cloud Infrastructure role, operating complex infrastructure at scale within a high-performance, mission-critical environment. Financial services or low-latency trading experience preferred.
- Expertise in AWS core networking services: AWS Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, VPC, Route 53, VPC Flow Logs, Cloud native firewall architectures, and PrivateLink.
- Strong production experience with Terraform for network provisioning and state management.
- Proficiency with modern observability and monitoring stacks (e.g., Prometheus/PromQL, Grafana, AWS CloudWatch) with experience improving alert quality and operational visibility.
- Demonstrated capability in scripting and automation using Python, Bash or Go, with exposure to CI/CD, GitOps, Ansible or orchestration workflows.
- Solid understanding of core networking protocols and architectures (BGP, IPsec VPNs, TCP/IP, DNS, routing/switching design).
- Experience driving technical roadmaps, backlog refinement, and sprint planning in an agile environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a bias toward automation over manual toil. Excellent communication skills to interface across platform engineering, trading desks, and external cloud vendors.
Working Pattern
This role operates within a global Network team. Participation in on-call, out-of-hours escalation, maintenance windows, and major incident response will be required, consistent with the operational nature of the team
