ANA is headquartered in Henderson, Nevada, with locations in Cypress, California, and Spartanburg, South Carolina. ANA is growing and scaling, and we are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer III to join our onsite engineering team in Henderson, Nevada. This advanced individual-contributor role leads complex mechanical design, product integration, prototyping, testing, and production-readiness activities for hybrid energy systems, generators, battery storage products, industrial enclosures, trailers, and related accessories.
The Mechanical Design Engineer III translates product requirements into safe, reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective designs. The role operates with a high degree of independence, leads technical design reviews, coordinates cross-functional work, supports suppliers and manufacturing, and provides technical guidance to other engineers and designers while remaining hands-on throughout development and validation.
The position is fully onsite, and the work schedule is weekdays from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM. This role reports to the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Conceptual Design & System Development: Lead mechanical concepts, structural layouts, industrial enclosures, trailer configurations, and component integration for current and future product lines.
- Detailed Mechanical Design: Develop design specifications covering material selection, structural integrity, human factors, serviceability, mechanical spacing, interfaces, vibration, and thermal considerations.
- Advanced CAD & Drawing Development: Create and review accurate 3D models, assemblies, layouts, and production drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD, including appropriate dimensions, tolerances, and manufacturing information.
- Electrical & Electromechanical Integration: Coordinate mounting, clearance, routing, cooling, access, and service requirements for electrical components, batteries, controls, power subsystems, engines, generators, and related equipment.
- PDM Administration: Administer and support SolidWorks PDM, including vault structure, user access, permissions, workflows, revision controls, templates, and system configuration.
- PDM Process & User Support: Maintain data integrity and engineering-document standards, troubleshoot user and workflow issues, train users, and drive continuous improvement of PDM processes.
- Design for Manufacturability & Cost: Apply DFM/DFA principles and partner with manufacturing to improve quality, reduce waste, simplify assembly, and identify cost savings without compromising performance or reliability.
- Prototyping & Production Support: Work directly with the production floor to assemble, modify, troubleshoot, and refine prototypes, fixtures, enclosures, and first-build units.
- Technical Leadership: Lead design reviews and brainstorming sessions, communicate technical direction, resolve complex design issues, and provide guidance to engineers, designers, suppliers, and contractors.
- Documentation & Configuration Control: Create and maintain BOMs, specifications, calculations, test reports, SOPs, assembly work instructions, user documentation, and engineering change records within established PDM and ERP workflows.
- Project Execution: Manage multiple design projects and workstreams, coordinate priorities and dependencies, and support delivery to defined scope, schedule, budget, quality, and product-development milestones.
- Standards, Safety & Compliance: Ensure designs meet applicable safety, quality, regulatory, and industry requirements and follow ANA product-development and stage-gate processes.
- Supplier & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with electrical engineering, manufacturing, quality, product management, service, sourcing, suppliers, vendors, and external partners to deliver integrated product solutions.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field, or an associate degree with substantial directly relevant experience in mechanical design, product development, and manufacturing.
- Experience: Typically, 8 to 12 years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering, product design, equipment development, or a similar role.
- Industry Experience: Experience with industrial equipment such as generators, engines, compressors, battery energy storage, hybrid power systems, automotive products, solar, or renewable-energy equipment is preferred.
- CAD & Engineering Tools: Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks 3D and 2D production drawings; working proficiency with AutoCAD and related engineering tools.
- Manufacturing Knowledge: Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication, machining, welding, assembly, materials, tolerancing, finishing processes, and quality-control principles.
- Analysis & Validation: Demonstrated ability to apply engineering calculations, test methods, root-cause problem solving, and data analysis to validate and improve designs.
- Product Development: Working knowledge of structured product-development methods, engineering change control, design reviews, and stage-gate or similar processes.
- Data & Business Systems: Experience with Product Data Management systems such as SolidWorks PDM and enterprise platforms such as Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
- Communication & Leadership: Strong technical writing, presentation, collaboration, and project-management skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions and manage multiple priorities independently.
- Continuous Improvement: Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, DFM/DFA, cost optimization, and practical use of generative AI tools for technical problem-solving, data analysis, design automation, or workflow improvement is preferred.
