About the role
This isn't a seat-warmer job.
Lucosky Brookman is a fast-growing business law firm handling Capital Markets, M&A, Corporate Finance, Insurance, and Litigation work. Our deals move fast, and our billing has to move faster. We're looking for someone who will own it.
If you need step-by-step direction, this isn't the role for you. If you see a better way to do something and just go do it, keep reading.
What we need from you
- Ideas. You'll spot what's slowing the billing cycle down and come to us with a fix.
- Diving in. You'll get into the details yourself. Edits, revisions, rate structures, client disputes are all yours.
- Guidance. Attorneys, staff, and clients will rely on you to tell them how billing should work and why.
- Leadership. You'll run our offshore finance team, set the standard, and hold it.
- Speed. You'll keep pace with a high-volume, high-pressure environment without dropping accuracy.
- Initiative. Nobody will hand you a to-do list. You'll know what needs doing before anyone asks.
What you'll own
- The full monthly billing cycle in our legal billing software, from attorney edits and revisions through finalizing and posting invoices, all in line with each client's engagement and fee terms.
- Getting bills out the door and accepted. That means submitting them, chasing issues to resolution, and reporting status.
- Being the go-to for attorney and client billing questions, with fast answers and real solutions.
- Directing and developing offshore finance team members.
- Special projects between billing cycles.
- Working in QuickBooks, Caret, and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
What you bring
- 5+ years of legal billing experience, ideally at a law firm or professional services firm.
- 2+ years managing a team.
- Command of legal billing mechanics: engagement terms, rate structures, discounts, write-ups and write-downs, and invoice revisions.
- General accounting knowledge is a plus.
- A bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience counts.
- Discretion with confidential client and firm matters.
If you're the person who fixes the problem instead of reporting it, we want to talk to you.
