Who We Are
KSL is Utah’s leading local news source across digital and broadcast platforms, delivering trusted, award‑winning journalism through KSL.com and KSL‑TV. We provide in‑depth local reporting, investigative journalism, and up‑to‑the‑minute coverage that serves communities across the state. Position Overview
Cougar Tracks is KSL Sports' podcast about BYU athletics. It is where Cougar fans go for news, analysis, and conversation about the teams they follow. We are hiring a full-time Podcast Producer to own production of the show from start to finish and grow its audience on YouTube and social media.
In this role, you will film and edit every episode and turn each one into short clips that bring new viewers to the show. The ideal candidate understands how audiences find and watch content on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and X and can turn that knowledge into more views, subscribers, and engagement.
You do not just finish edits; you want the show to grow. You look at an episode and know which 45 seconds will get shared. You check the analytics because you want to know why one video took off and another did not. You are excited by the chance to build the biggest place online for BYU sports conversation.
Note: Work configurations are subject to change based on business needs and at company discretion.
- This position is an on-site role that requires the employee to regularly work at our Salt Lake City site.
- This role follows the sports calendar and requires flexibility for game days, evenings, weekends, and breaking news, especially during football and basketball seasons.
What You Will Do:
Primary job duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Film regular episodes, interviews, and remote or on-location recordings using multi-camera video production.
- Edit the audio and video for each full episode with clean pacing, consistent sound, and polished graphics, then publish on schedule to YouTube and podcast platforms.
- Identify strong moments from each episode, including hot takes, breaking-news reactions, funny exchanges, and compelling analysis, and turn them into short vertical and horizontal clips tailored to each platform.
- Add captions, graphics, hooks, and thumbnails that encourage viewers to stop scrolling and click.
- Grow the YouTube channel by writing titles, descriptions, and tags; designing thumbnails; and using YouTube Analytics to improve future videos.
- Lead the social strategy by planning when and where to post, reacting quickly to BYU news, and testing new formats and trends to reach more fans.
- Partner with the host and editorial staff on episode planning, guest-booking logistics, and promotion across KSL platforms.
Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:
- Proven experience editing long-form podcast or video episodes.
- Hands-on experience filming video, including camera setup, framing, lighting, and audio capture.
- Strong ability to identify and edit short-form social clips.
- Proficiency with video-editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro.
- Clear understanding of YouTube, including thumbnails, titles, audience retention, and the platform algorithm.
- Fluency with Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and X, with an understanding of what works on each platform.
- Ability to work quickly during news cycles and meet recurring publishing deadlines.
- A portfolio or reel demonstrating full-episode edits and social clips.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and establish positive, cooperative working relationships with staff and management.
- Strong self-motivation, organization, dependability, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain a professional demeanor.
- Ability to work the hours required to meet deadlines, including game days, evenings, and weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience covering sports, especially college athletics.
- Experience with the RØDECaster Video or similar live video-production switchers.
- Knowledge of BYU athletics and its fan base.
- Experience using analytics to grow a podcast or YouTube channel.
- Motion-graphics or thumbnail-design skills using tools such as After Effects, Photoshop, or Canva.
Physical Demands
- Receive, process, and maintain information through effective oral and written communication.
- Use manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate computer keys, cameras, audio equipment, and general office equipment; work on a computer for prolonged periods.
- Sit and/or stand for extended periods.
- May lift up to 50 lbs on occasion..
Compensation
$19.00 - $24.00 per hour. Hourly rate to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to evaluation of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with market data.
