About the role
Context:
As modern cars evolve towards higher levels of safety, and regulations establish new use-cases, the reliance on various sensors and technologies to ensure the safety of the vehicle occupants is increasing. Vision-based sensors are used in combination with radar-based sensors to determine seat occupancy, posture, seatbelt position, intrusion detection, as well as the presence of children in the cockpit, and even the presence of feet on dashboard to prevent airbag deployment: all of this while achieving high levels of confidence and robustness against false detections.
The growing number of use cases is driving the need for more sensors: there is an opportunity to optimize the use of the sensors data to reduce their overall cost in the car system.
Subject:
The internship mission will be to establish the transmission of interior radar data through an existing interior camera link, as well as the control of said radar, via the same link.
The work will be divided into 3 milestones as below, but the actual scope and extent of your work will be defined by yourself and your manager along the internship progress:
- Evaluate the potential of image + radar data fusion for interior sensing from literature and own research, and measure it against the upcoming regulation requirements
- Demonstrate the functionality of the concept by using evaluation kits and developing the required SW.
- Prepare an optimized HW design: apply engineering skills to design decisions, component selection, and schematic design.
The project will be exploiting at least the technologies below:
- FPD-Link interface for video transmission over a single cable
- 60GHz radar
The internship is also an entry point for other careers in TI, and it may lead to you being hired in 2027 as a Field Applications Engineer or Technical Sales Representative in our FAST rotation program.
The team you will join:
In this role you´ll be part of a team of field sales and application Engineers who are working with customers to help them be successful and generate revenue growth. This is achieved by identifying projects early and working closely with the customers to solve their engineering challenges.
You can also rely on additional internal support from power, system and product experts.
Profile:
- Education level / diploma: Electrical engineering
- Experience with SW development is a plus but not mandatory
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work autonomously and communicate effectively
- Driving license is a plus
