About the role
Objective of the Position
China is one of the most important markets for Mercedes-Benz and a key driver of innovation in electric mobility. The rapid development of power electronics, electrified low-voltage networks, and localized supply chains creates significant opportunities and challenges for future vehicle platforms.
The Charging & High Voltage Systems team is responsible for the development, localization, validation, and innovation of high-voltage charging and power-conversion components in China.
This expert position holds end-to-end technical responsibility for high-voltage DC/DC converters, including HV-to-12 V and HV-to-48 V conversion as well as dual-output and integrated power-electronics concepts for Mercedes-Benz vehicle platforms.
The role acts as the technical authority for DC/DC architecture, requirements, supplier concepts, design maturity, validation, industrialization, and issue resolution. It independently steers complex cross-functional decisions, defines technical roadmaps, transfers China-market innovation into global development, and coaches engineers and project partners in the DC/DC domain.
The position ensures robust delivery against Mercedes-Benz targets for safety, quality, performance, efficiency, package, cost, and timing, while aligning China suppliers and global development teams.
Key Responsibilities
- DC/DC Technical Authority & End-to-End Component Ownership
Own the DC/DC component from concept to series release. Define architecture, requirements, performance targets, interfaces, and acceptance criteria; independently approve technical concepts and drive robust decisions across the lifecycle.
- Supplier Development, Design Maturity & Localization
Lead supplier technical steering, concept and design reviews, maturity assessment, change control, and escalations. Evaluate supplier proposals and localization options, provide technical input to sourcing decisions, and secure design-to-cost and industrialization readiness.
- Validation, Safety, Quality & Complex Issue Resolution
Define risk-based validation and evidence strategy covering electrical performance, efficiency, EMC, thermal behavior, insulation, diagnostics, functional safety interfaces, reliability, and vehicle integration. Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for critical development and field issues.
- DC/DC Technology Roadmap & Global Expert Contribution
Benchmark China and global technologies and define roadmaps for HV-to-12 V, HV-to-48 V, dual-output, bidirectional, and integrated power-electronics concepts. Translate market and supplier innovation into concrete Mercedes-Benz platform proposals and standards.
- Cross-functional Leadership, Governance & Capability Building
Lead alignment with vehicle architecture, LV/HV power network, battery, eDrive, thermal, EMC, software, purchasing, quality, manufacturing, and project teams. Represent the DC/DC domain in management reviews, mentor engineers, and establish reusable methods and lessons learned.
