About the role
Description
BCTS delivers turn-key solutions across a wide range of markets, making us one of North America’s leading industrial services companies. When you work with us, you become part of a culture that puts safety first and offers challenging, rewarding work in an energetic environment.
We take pride in upholding a high standard of excellence while maintaining an ethical, friendly workplace where people are valued.
Role Purpose:
BCTS is hiring for an HRIS Technical Specialist to support the ongoing UKG implementation at its Modern Niagara Building Services division which operates throughout Canada. The HRIS Technical Specialist is the hands-on technical owner of the workforce systems that support BCTS’s UKG modules, covering UKG Pro, UKG Workforce Management (Dimensions), and Passport Workforce.
The role sits within the Technology & Transformation Office, part of the broader BCTS Technology team, and works closely with People & Culture, Payroll, Operations, and Finance in each division. The focus is straightforward: move time and employee data from the field to payroll accurately, keep the platforms stable and well-controlled, and steadily improve how the divisions use them.
Key Accountabilities:
Platform Configuration & Administration
• Configure and administer UKG Pro and UKG Workforce Management (Dimensions), including business rules, security roles, workflows, timekeeping, scheduling, accruals, onboarding and offboarding workflows, org structure, and employee self-service.
• Administer Passport Workforce for field time capture, crew management, and approvals, including forms, union rules and rates, and job costing logic.
• Manage role-based access across UKG and Passport, run periodic access reviews, maintain separation of duties, protect employee data, and support internal and external audits.
• Support each payroll cycle with pre-payroll validations, pay-period close, and year-end processing.
• Maintain pay policies, earnings and deduction codes, cost centers, and multi-state tax setups that reflect each division’s policies, collective agreements, and federal, state, and local requirements, including overtime, meal and break, and prevailing-wage rules.
• Manage test and production environments; test and validate configuration changes, UKG releases, and new features before they reach production; and support new module rollouts and upgrades.
Integrations & Data
• Build and support integrations between UKG, Passport, payroll, NetSuite (ERP), FieldPoint, and other connected systems, including file-based (SFTP) and API interfaces.
• Monitor interface jobs, resolve failures and data discrepancies, and manage vendor relationships and service levels.
• Perform data mapping, mass updates, and reconciliations using SQL and Excel, and apply validation rules that keep workforce data clean.
Divisional Support & Reporting
• Provide tier 2 and tier 3 support to the UKG divisions through the ticketing process, including root cause analysis, vendor escalation, and after-hours coverage at payroll deadlines.
• Turn divisional requests into practical configuration, integration, or reporting solutions that stay consistent with BCTS standards.
• Build and maintain reports and dashboards in UKG and Passport, and train users and build how-to guides so they get more from self-serve reporting.
Change & Continuous Improvement
• Stay current on HRIS platform features and releases and recommend how to use them to enable the business.
• Understand cross-functional business processes across HR, payroll, operations, and finance to ensure technology is leveraged efficiently and manual workarounds are reduced.
• Support Technology & Transformation Office initiatives that improve workforce processes and system adoption across divisions.
• Bring acquired companies onto UKG and Passport, including data conversion, configuration, and alignment with BCTS standards.
• Plan and test system changes, assess their impact, and communicate releases to affected users.
• Keep configuration, integration, and support documentation current.
Requirements
Required
• 3–5+ years of hands-on experience as an HRIS specialist, systems analyst, or HR technology administrator.
• Direct configuration experience with UKG Pro and/or UKG Workforce Management (Dimensions), including pay rules, work rules, and security.
• Working knowledge of SQL, advanced Excel, UKG reporting and integration tools, and file-based or API integrations; experience with Power BI or scripting (Python or PowerShell) is an asset.
• Experience building reports and dashboards within HR or workforce management platforms.
• Solid understanding of the end-to-end employee lifecycle, from recruiting and onboarding through performance, benefits, and payroll, and how data flows between each stage.
• Project management skills, with experience planning and delivering system changes, rollouts, and upgrades on time.
• Degree or diploma in Information Systems, Computer Science, HR Technology, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience. UKG or payroll certification (e.g., CPP) is an asset.
Assets
• Experience with an integration platform such as Boomi.
• Experience with Passport Workforce or a similar field time capture platform, and with NetSuite or FieldPoint integrations.
• Experience supporting unionized workforces, including collective agreement pay rules, and with certified payroll reporting.
• Background in multi-jurisdiction or construction environments.
Competencies & Profile
• Detail-driven problem solver. Traces issues to the root cause and cares about getting the data right, and handles confidential employee and pay data with discretion.
• Practical translator. Turns business needs into workable system solutions and explains technical issues in plain language.
• Service-minded partner. Builds trust with divisional users and supports them with patience and follow-through.
• Disciplined operator. Tests before releasing, documents as it goes, and respects change controls.
• Organized and adaptable. Balances support requests with project work in a lean, fast-moving team.
• Travel. Ability to travel 10–20% to divisions and job sites as business needs require.
