About the role
Graduate Companion Animal Veterinarian
Fur Life Vet Horsham | Horsham, Victoria
Want to become the kind of small animal vet who feels confident working up the interesting cases, not just the straightforward ones?
At Fur Life Vet Horsham, you'll get the clinical variety of regional practice with an experienced team around you while you learn.
We're an ASAV accredited companion animal hospital with a close-knit team of vets, qualified nurses and reception staff who genuinely enjoy working together. For a graduate wanting strong foundations in medicine, surgery, diagnostics and emergency care, Horsham is a pretty exciting place to start.
Why Horsham?
Regional practice brings variety.
You'll gain experience across preventative care, medicine, surgery, dentistry, diagnostics and emergency cases, with the opportunity to tackle more complicated medical and surgical cases as your confidence grows.
We take a collaborative approach to cases and use a team consulting model, so you'll be supported by a nurse during consults and have experienced colleagues around you to bounce cases off.
You don't need to know everything on day one. We want to help you become the vet you imagined you would be when you started vet school.
Great cases. Great equipment. Plenty to learn.
Our hospital is equipped to let you properly investigate and work up your cases, including:
- In house IDEXX laboratory with SediVue
- Digital radiography and ultrasound
- Digital dental radiography
- Multiparameter anaesthetic monitoring
- Endoscopy and video otoscopy
- Tonometry and electrocautery
- SmartFlow and EzyVet
For a graduate, that means hands on experience using diagnostics and building your clinical reasoning rather than simply learning when to refer.
What you'll receive
- Above award graduate salary
- Relocation assistance
- One week paid study leave each year
- Veterinary registration paid
- Support towards professional memberships and subscriptions
- VetEducation membership
- Structured graduate development and ongoing CPD
- Employee Assistance Program
- Staff discounts on veterinary products and services
- Retail, travel and gym discounts
- Four weeks annual leave
- Five days paid volunteer leave
Your working week
After hours is shared with a neighbouring clinic and supported by a trained triage team that filters calls and takes deposits.
As a graduate, the focus is on building your skills and confidence with experienced people around you as you transition into practice.
Life in Horsham
Horsham offers the ease and affordability of regional living while still providing the amenities of a major regional centre.
You'll have sporting and community activities, schools and healthcare locally, with national parks nearby for hiking, camping and weekends outdoors.
It's somewhere you can get to know your clients, become part of the community and have a life outside the clinic too.
About you
We're looking for a graduate who wants to become a really capable companion animal vet.
You don't need to arrive as an accomplished surgeon or have every complicated medical case figured out. We're looking for someone who:
- Enjoys companion animal medicine and surgery
- Is curious and wants to understand their cases
- Enjoys working collaboratively with vets and nurses
- Communicates well with clients
- Is comfortable asking questions
- Wants to develop strong clinical reasoning and diagnostic skills
If you're enthusiastic, curious and prepared to learn, we'll help you build the rest.
Ready to start your veterinary career?
Your first year is where everything you learned at university starts becoming real.
See the cases. Work them up. Use the diagnostics. Learn surgery. Experience emergencies. Talk through the difficult ones with your team. And gradually realise you're becoming the vet you spent all those years training to be.
If you want a first job that gives you the cases, equipment and support to become a really capable companion animal vet, come and start your career at Fur Life Vet Horsham.
We'd love to hear from you. Apply with your cover letter and resume via the portal or contact Corinne at corinne.warnick@apiam.com.au or 0458 387 478 to discuss the role.
