Experienced Caregiver Needed – High-Assist Transfers & Mobility Support
CareFor is seeking dependable, experienced caregivers to provide one-on-one support to an adult male client in Leander who uses a wheelchair and requires extensive, hands-on assistance with transfers, mobility, and daily living activities.
This case requires significant physical assistance and advanced awareness of transfer and fall-prevention safety. The client is non-weight-bearing and requires assistance with transfers between the bed, wheelchair, and toilet. Applicants must have the experience, training, and physical ability to perform these essential duties safely using appropriate transfer equipment and techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with bed-to-wheelchair and wheelchair-to-toilet transfers using approved transfer techniques and prescribed equipment.
- Provide hands-on assistance with repositioning, personal care, and activities of daily living.
- Maintain close attention to the client's positioning, balance, and safety while seated in the wheelchair and during all transfers.
- Follow established fall-prevention procedures and recognize changes in stability that may require immediate safety intervention.
- Use appropriate equipment, including a gait belt when indicated by the care plan and safe transfer protocol.
- Follow the client's individualized care plan and agency safety procedures.
- Communicate promptly about safety concerns, changes in mobility, and incidents requiring assistance.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience with non-weight-bearing clients and high-assistance transfers.
- Ability to safely perform the essential physical duties of the position, with appropriate accommodations and prescribed transfer equipment.
- Knowledge of safe transfer techniques, body mechanics, fall prevention, and wheelchair safety.
- Ability to remain attentive and responsive to changes in a client's balance, positioning, and ability to participate in transfers.
- Dependability, patience, sound judgment, and respect for the client's dignity and independence.
- Availability to work Sundays and travel to the Leander, TX area.
- Ability to follow the care plan and recognize when a transfer should not proceed without additional assistance.
Relevant caregiving experience and transfer-safety training are strongly preferred. Applicants may be asked to demonstrate or discuss their transfer experience and competency before assignment.
Schedule & Flexibility
- 12-hour shifts, preferably 8:00 AM–8:00 PM.
- Sunday availability is required.
- Weekend coverage will be arranged on a rotating basis.
- Caregivers who prefer not to work every weekend may be able to alternate weekends with another caregiver.
- With a larger care team, some caregivers may work as infrequently as one weekend per month, depending on staffing needs.
- Additional shifts with other agency clients may be available.
Home Environment
An older, calm dog is present in the home. The dog generally rests and does not routinely interact with caregivers.
