About the role
Business Strategy and Transformation
Partner with business and IT leaders to understand enterprise strategy, targeted outcomes, operating-model priorities, and transformation needs.
Assess internal and external forces that may affect business models, capabilities, operations, investments, or technology direction.
Translate strategic intent into clear architecture options, implications, dependencies, risks, and recommended courses of action.
Use scenario planning and systems thinking to help leaders shape resilient, adaptable, and future-fit operating models.
Enterprise and Business Architecture
Develop and maintain the enterprise architecture views needed to support strategy and transformation, including business capabilities, value streams, information concepts, application and technology landscapes, operating-model views, and outcome maps.
Clarify how capabilities, processes, organization, information, policies, controls, and technology work together to deliver business outcomes.
Identify capability gaps, duplication, fragmentation, and opportunities for simplification, standardization, interoperability, reuse, and innovation.
Ensure enterprise and business architecture provides strategic context for data, application, solution, security, integration, and technology architecture.
Target States and Strategic Roadmaps
Define current-state, target-state, and transition architectures across business, data, application, and technology perspectives.
Develop multiyear roadmaps that connect strategic outcomes to capability evolution, organizational change, initiatives, and enabling investments.
Manage cross-domain dependencies and identify second- and third-order impacts of architecture and investment decisions.
Keep architecture direction current as strategy, business conditions, technology, and execution realities evolve.
Information, Data, and Emerging Technology
Define enterprise-level information and data implications of strategy, capabilities, operating-model change, and transformation.
Promote shared information definitions, data ownership, interoperability, trusted data use, and the information flows required for analytics, automation, and AI.
Evaluate AI, intelligent automation, cloud platforms, digital ecosystems, and advanced data capabilities against business value, readiness, interoperability, cost, risk, security, privacy, and responsible-use considerations.
Translate relevant technology trends into practical options, experiments, and enterprise adoption guidance without favoring a specific vendor or technology.
Investment and Portfolio Guidance
Guide investment decisions by connecting proposed initiatives and portfolios to business capabilities, outcomes, enterprise priorities, and target states.
Assess options using business value, cost, risk, strategic alignment, reuse, complexity, sustainability, and total cost of ownership.
Provide architecture input to business cases, prioritization, sequencing, rationalization, modernization, and retirement decisions.
Help leaders balance near-term delivery needs with long-term enterprise value, resilience, and architectural coherence.
Enterprise Architecture Governance
Define and maintain architecture principles, reference architectures, standards, decision records, and minimum viable architecture guidance.
Participate in Architecture Review Board and related governance forums, providing an enterprise and cross-domain perspective.
Provide architecture assurance for strategic initiatives, major investments, technology selections, and material exceptions.
Facilitate resolution of cross-functional architecture issues and ensure that accepted exceptions have clear rationale, risk ownership, and a path forward.
Business and IT Alignment
Build trusted relationships with executives, business leaders, portfolio and product teams, delivery leaders, and specialized architects.
Communicate architecture through concise narratives, capability views, roadmaps, heat maps, principles, and decision options appropriate to the audience.
Connect architecture to execution by monitoring material dependencies, risks, outcomes, and changes in strategic direction.
Advance the Enterprise Architecture practice through reusable methods, artifacts, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
Architecture Enablement and Execution Alignment
Provide enterprise context, principles, target states, and decision guidance to portfolios, products, programs, and delivery teams.
Work with specialized architects to translate enterprise direction into implementable domain and solution architectures.
Monitor material architectural dependencies, risks, exceptions, and outcome assumptions throughout execution, and adjust roadmaps as evidence and priorities change.
Coach architects and stakeholders; promote consistent methods, terminology, quality standards, reusable deliverables, and architecture knowledge sharing.
Help evolve the Enterprise Architecture operating model, services, governance, engagement approach, and community of practice.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business, information systems, computer science, engineering, or a related discipline; advanced degree preferred.
10+ years of progressive experience in business transformation, strategy, architecture, portfolio planning, or complex enterprise technology environments.
Demonstrated experience operating at an enterprise or cross-domain architecture level, regardless of prior job title.
Demonstrated experience translating business strategy into capability models, target-state architectures, roadmaps, and investment priorities.
Experience working across multiple functions, regions, and technology domains in a complex, global, matrixed organization.
Experience facilitating executive decisions and influencing stakeholders without direct authority.
Required Skills
Business strategy translation, operating-model analysis, capability modeling, value streams, outcome definition, and organizational change implications.
