About the role
WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH
This role is part of Air Manufacturing Innovation’s Tooling Engineering team and reports to the tooling engineering leader. The programmer partners closely with the Tool Shop, Tooling Engineering, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Process Engineering to deliver reliable, production-ready machining solutions.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Air Manufacturing Innovation is looking for an experienced CNC Programmer II who can convert complex tooling designs into efficient, reliable machining processes. This candidate combines advanced NX CAM programming capability with practical knowledge of 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machining, cutting tools, materials, fixtures, and workholding. The person is comfortable reviewing designs for manufacturability, troubleshooting issues at the machine, and balancing quality, delivery, and cycle-time requirements. Success in this role requires structured problem solving, disciplined documentation, clear communication, and the judgment to identify and escalate technical risks early. The candidate should be able to work independently on complex assignments while collaborating across engineering and shop-floor teams. They will also help strengthen programming standards, support root-cause corrective action, share technical knowledge, and mentor less-experienced programmers.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, experience, or training
- Minimum of 2 years directly relevant work experience
- Demonstrated professional experience developing complex CNC programs and machining strategies in Siemens NX CAM or a comparable CAM environment
- Teamcenter experience a plus
- Experience with multiple CNC controllers a plus
- Strong knowledge of machining methods, cutting tools, materials, fixtures, workholding, and design-for-manufacturability principles
- Experience troubleshooting machining and first-pass quality issues using structured root-cause and corrective-action methods
- Ability to communicate technical decisions, maintain revision-controlled documentation, and mentor other programmers in a collaborative manufacturing environment.
WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON
You will translate tooling designs into safe, efficient, and repeatable machining processes. You will own complex programming assignments, support production readiness, solve machining problems, improve quality and cycle time, and help establish consistent programming practices across Tooling Engineering and the Tool Shop.
- You will develop, verify, release, and maintain complex CAM programs, toolpaths, setup information, and machining strategies for thermoforming molds and downstream tooling
- You will review models and drawings with Tooling Engineering and Design Engineering, providing early manufacturability, tooling, workholding, and process input
- You will troubleshoot programming, machining, tooling, equipment, and first-pass quality issues through direct collaboration with the Tool Shop
- You will optimize cutting tools, feeds and speeds, machining sequence, workholding, and cycle time while protecting safety, quality, and repeatability
- You will lead or contribute to root-cause corrective action and continuous-improvement work, documenting findings, actions, and sustained results
- You will create and improve programming standards for both 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machines, templates, revision-control practices, and technical documentation that strengthen consistent execution
- You will help prioritize the programming queue, communicate delivery risks, support production readiness, and mentor Engineer I programmers
