The technician will primarily operate from an assigned service truck, which can be taken home. The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with an after-hours on-call rotation approximately once every four weeks and occasional overtime based on business needs.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel and natural gas engines at customer locations, using specialized diagnostic equipment, electronic service tools, and technical publications to identify mechanical and electrical faults, interpret diagnostic codes, and verify successful repairs.
- Perform internal engine repairs, basic engine overhauls, and component replacements, including disassembly, inspection, reassembly, and repair of engine systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications and established service procedures.
- Troubleshoot and repair engine aftertreatment systems, fuel systems, air handling components, electrical circuits, sensors, and controls, ensuring proper engine performance and reliability across mid-range, heavy-duty, and high-horsepower applications.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and scheduled service activities on engines and related components, identifying potential equipment failures, preparing required parts and tools, and completing repairs efficiently to minimize customer downtime.
- Provide professional customer service by responding promptly to service needs, communicating technical findings and repair recommendations, and identifying additional maintenance or repair opportunities to support customer satisfaction.
- Complete accurate service documentation, including diagnostic findings, service worksheets, timesheets, warranty claims, and quality records, using appropriate electronic business systems and established documentation procedures.
- Manage assigned field service activities independently across Georgia, Alabama, and surrounding areas, maintaining service vehicles, tools, and equipment in proper operating condition while adhering to all applicable Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Collaborate with senior technicians and supervisors to resolve complex technical issues, escalate unresolved concerns with documented troubleshooting findings, and participate in technical training and mentoring to continuously develop diagnostic and repair capabilities.
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Demonstrated experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines, with a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical engine systems.
- Proficient experience performing internal engine repairs, including identifying internal component failures and completing mechanical repairs.
- Previous field service experience, with the ability to troubleshoot and perform repairs at customer locations with minimal supervision.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose technical issues and determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a customer-focused approach and the ability to explain technical findings and repair recommendations clearly.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize service assignments, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate repair documentation.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, demonstrate sound judgment, and maintain quality workmanship in a fast-paced field service environment.
- Strong safety awareness and demonstrated commitment to following Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures.
- Dependability, consistent attendance, strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.
- Ability to travel throughout the assigned service territory, including Georgia, Alabama, and surrounding areas, as business needs require.
- Willingness to participate in an after-hours on-call rotation approximately once every four weeks and work overtime when required.
- Ability to travel for technical training, anticipated to be less than 25% of the time.
- High-horsepower (HHP) engine experience or certification is preferred but not required.
