Role Sumary
We are building a global controllership function for a newly public organization. We are seeking an autonomous, high-impact EMEA Controller to serve as our first controllership leader in the region. In this role, you will own the end-to-end statutory reporting, audit execution, and digital compliance operating model across our current EMEA jurisdictions: UK, Germany, Poland, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden, and Ireland. You will act as a fiduciary representative (Director/Legal Representative) for our EMEA entities, ensuring that our statutory obligations are met with public-company rigor. You will bridge US GAAP group reporting with local statutory requirements, oversee our third-party tax/e-invoicing partners, and drive process governance in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
What You'll Do
Statutory Reporting & Audit Governance
- Statutory Close Ownership: Lead the end-to-end statutory close process for all in-scope EMEA entities, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant local GAAP/IFRS financial statements.
- Audit Leadership: Serve as the primary EMEA point of contact for external auditors and local statutory advisors; lead audit planning, PBC management, issue resolution, and final sign-off processes.
- Reporting Bridges: Coordinate with US HQ to bridge group (US GAAP) and local reporting requirements, ensuring standardized statutory reporting packages and tie-outs.
Fiduciary & Signatory Responsibility
- Legal Representation: Serve as a local Director/Legal Representative for designated EMEA entities. Assume fiduciary responsibility for statutory filings, ensuring compliance with local corporate law and governance requirements.
- Signatory Governance: Manage the end-to-end process for statutory filings, including review, approval, and execution (signing) of financial statements, tax returns, and corporate filings. Maintain a robust delegation of authority (DoA) framework for all EMEA entities.
Digital Compliance & Systems Oversight
- Digital Tax Oversight: Act as the internal owner for digital tax compliance (VAT, e-reporting, e-invoicing). While day-to-day filing execution is owned by our tax function, this role is responsible for data integrity, timely submission, and exception management.
- Systems Integration: Partner with Tax and IT to ensure Oracle Fusion and Vertex configurations support VAT/digital reporting requirements and reconcile accurately to the General Ledger.
- Controls & Governance: Design and operate internal controls over the digital tax process, ensuring that invoice generation, data transmission, and tax reporting are audit-ready and compliant with public-company standards.
Provider & Stakeholder Management
- Provider Oversight: Manage third-party providers, including local statutory/audit firms. Define SLAs, KPIs, and quarterly business reviews to ensure high-quality, timely delivery.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Build strong working relationships with HR (payroll accounting interfaces), Legal (entity governance), Tax (compliance strategy), and IT (systems enablement).
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 10+ years of progressive controllership, statutory reporting, and audit experience in multi-entity, multi-country EMEA environments.
- Fiduciary Experience: Prior experience serving as a local director, legal representative, or authorized signatory for corporate entities in EMEA is highly preferred.
- Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of statutory financial statement preparation, local GAAP/IFRS, and the intersection of digital compliance (e-invoicing/VAT) with finance systems (ERP/Tax engines).
- Systems: Proficiency in Oracle Fusion and Vertex (or similar enterprise-grade ERP/Tax platforms).
- Autonomy: Proven ability to operate as an autonomous leader—setting direction, building processes from scratch, and driving execution without heavy oversight.
- Communication: Excellent English communication skills; ability to work effectively with US HQ stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Public Company Background: Experience in a public-company environment (including SOX/ICFR control design and audit readiness).
- Governance: Strong understanding of local corporate governance, director liability, and the legal requirements for statutory filings across the UK and EU.
- Transformation: Experience selecting/managing outsourced providers and implementing governance (SLAs, KPIs, escalation).
