About the role
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Operations – AI-Native Operations based in the United States.
As Director of Operations, you will lead the operational engine of a fast-growing roofing business, overseeing its people, processes, financial performance, and technology infrastructure. This high-autonomy leadership role combines traditional business operations with an innovative AI-native operating model, where automated agents manage key workflows around the clock. Reporting directly to the owner, you will have significant decision-making authority and responsibility for six core areas: AI agent oversight, sales operations, production, financial performance, marketing, and people management. You will ensure the business continues to grow profitably while protecting margins and strengthening operational efficiency. A major priority will be developing and scaling the retail sales process to support the next stage of growth. This is an opportunity for a hands-on operator who thrives in lean environments and knows how to turn systems, teams, and technology into measurable business results.
Accountabilities
-
AI Operations and Systems Oversight
-
Oversee four AI agents operating around the clock across lead intake, customer experience, project coordination, and accounting workflows.
-
Audit agent performance, identify gaps, and ensure automated processes support business objectives.
-
Maintain and improve the operational infrastructure that enables the business to scale efficiently.
-
Sales Operations and Growth
-
Own and continuously improve the sales process, with a particular focus on developing the retail sales channel.
-
Strengthen lead management, conversion processes, and sales performance reporting.
-
Monitor the sales funnel and identify opportunities to improve lead quality, conversion, and revenue generation.
-
Production and Fulfillment
-
Oversee production, project coordination, and service delivery across roofing repairs, replacements, and custom projects.
-
Manage and support the field superintendent and project coordinator.
-
Ensure projects move efficiently through the pipeline while maintaining service quality and customer satisfaction.
-
Financial Performance
-
Take responsibility for overall financial performance and operational profitability.
-
Monitor the P&L, protect gross margins, and identify opportunities to improve financial efficiency.
-
Work closely with the controller to maintain visibility into financial results and business performance.
-
Marketing and Lead Generation
-
Oversee marketing performance and lead flow, including Meta advertising.
-
Take ownership of Meta ad performance and establish effective funnel reporting.
-
Align marketing activities with sales objectives and business growth targets.

People and Leadership
-
Lead the operational team, including the field superintendent, project coordinator, and controller.
-
Set clear expectations, monitor performance, and address performance issues decisively.
-
Build accountability and ensure team members have the direction and resources needed to deliver results.
-
Work closely with the owner to execute business priorities while minimizing unnecessary escalation.
-
Days 1–30: Learn the full operational pipeline, audit every AI agent, and deliver a written 90-day priority plan.
-
Days 31–60: Close outstanding infrastructure items, establish funnel reporting, and assume ownership of Meta advertising performance.
-
By Day 90: Take full ownership of all six operational areas: AI agent oversight, sales, production, financial performance, marketing, and people.
-
Proven experience leading operations in a small or lean business environment, rather than managing only one department within a large organization.
-
Demonstrated experience managing teams and making difficult personnel and performance-related decisions.
-
Experience owning, developing, or rebuilding a sales process.
-
Ability to interpret and manage a profit and loss statement (P&L), understand business performance, and protect gross margins without necessarily performing bookkeeping duties.
-
Strong technological aptitude and a systems-oriented mindset.
-
Ability to understand how people, processes, automation, and technology work together to support business operations.
-
Strong decision-making skills and the ability to take ownership of challenges independently.
-
Ability to work effectively with a fast-moving, direct founder, bringing clear recommendations and decisions rather than simply presenting options.
-
Sound judgment about when to escalate issues and when to resolve them independently.
-
This is a remote position without a central office.
-
Candidates must reside in the Phoenix Valley, Arizona.
-
Local presence is mandatory, with availability to visit job sites and meet the team in person as needed.
-
Annual base salary: $90,000–$102,000.
