Jacob’s Pillow is home to America’s longest-running international dance festival and is a year-round center for dance, with The School, the Archives and community programs. Its 225-acre campus in the Berkshire Hills of Becket, Massachusetts, is a National Historic Landmark, and the Pillow is a National Medal of Arts recipient.
The Director of Facilities, Safety and Security keeps that campus safe, accessible and ready for artists, students, audiences and staff. The buildings range from 18th-century farmhouses and on-site housing to the Ted Shawn Theatre, the first theater in the country built for dance. The work runs all year, peaks in summer when the Festival fills the grounds, and includes some nights and weekends depending on the events schedule. In the first year, this person will carry the campus through a full Festival season, lead the campus accessibility audit, and set a multi-year plan for the buildings and grounds.
The Director of Facilities, Safety and Security oversees and maintains the entire physical plant: infrastructure, buildings and grounds; supports all artistic programming, and develops a sustainable plan as the organization grows and expands. Working with the IT Director and Director of People & Culture, ensures that staff have adequate workstation and workplace accommodations to fulfill responsibilities. Works with the Director of Technical Production to ensure performance venues are properly maintained and equipped; and with Company Management to ensure smooth turnover of on-site housing. The Director of Facilities supports the development of emergency plans and oversees access control and implementation of safety plans.
