About the role
Depot Transport Manager – Bury St Edmunds
Ready to take ownership of a busy transport operation?
We’re looking for an experienced Depot Transport Manager to lead our transport operation in Bury St Edmunds.
This is a key leadership role for someone who knows transport inside out. You’ll take responsibility for compliance, fleet performance, driver leadership, safety and cost, making sure our operation delivers every day.
If you’re an experienced Transport Manager who enjoys being close to the operation, leading from the front and making things happen, we want to hear from you.
What you'll be doing
As Depot Transport Manager, you’ll have real ownership of the transport function. You will:
Lead and develop the driving team, creating a high-performing, safe and engaged operation.
Own transport compliance, including O Licence requirements, drivers’ hours, tachographs, CPC, vehicle maintenance and regulatory documentation.
Plan fleet and driver resource around forecast volumes, including robust plans for peak and operational challenges.
Drive safety and quality, reducing accidents, near misses and vehicle damage through effective controls, investigations and follow-up.
Manage transport costs and fleet performance, identifying route efficiencies and controlling fuel, maintenance, repairs and Vehicle Off Road activity.
Work closely with the wider depot team to deliver strong service, cost, people and quality results.
What we're looking for
You'll already have solid experience managing a fast-paced transport operation and, importantly, you'll understand what great compliance looks like.
You'll need:
Transport Manager CPC National Certificate – essential
Full UK Driving Licence
2–3+ years' experience in a Transport Management role
Strong knowledge of O Licence compliance, drivers' hours, Working Time Directive and tachograph requirements
Experience using transport management systems and tachograph analysis
Experience managing and developing drivers within a busy operation
Strong planning, analytical and problem-solving skills
Confidence managing performance, investigations and operational challenges
The resilience to stay calm, make decisions and deliver when the pressure is on
An IOSH qualification and wider Transport or Logistics qualification would also be advantageous.
Why this role?
This isn’t a role where you'll simply monitor a transport plan from behind a desk.
You'll be a key part of the depot leadership team, with the opportunity to shape performance, improve the operation and build a transport team you're proud of.
You'll report directly to the Depot General Manager and lead the Depot Transport Supervisor and driving teams, working closely with colleagues across Operations, Transport Compliance, Health & Safety, HR, Finance and Delivery.
If you know transport, understand compliance and can get the best from people, we'd like to hear from you.
Apply now and take the lead of our Bury St Edmunds transport operation.
