About the role
About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the role
You'll shape how product launches, announcements, and the company show up in the communities where the AI conversation actually happens: X, Hacker News, LinkedIn, YouTube, newsletters, and wherever it moves next. You'll straddle (and help bring together) the Product Communications and Community Communications teams, two new top-level teams in the Communications org, and help get these functions off the ground. You'll help set media and social strategy for these launches, run several workstreams at once, and work across our brand, product, and marketing teams. You should use Claude every day to help scale your impact across the fast-growing company. This is a hybrid role that sits across the Product Communications and Community Communications teams.
Key responsibilities
- Own launch communications for model and product releases: write the plan and messaging, prepare the tough questions, coordinate PR agencies, and craft owned, executive, and employee social
- Set the proactive social strategy for major moments with brand social and the launch lead: what the company accounts say, how employee and executive voices cascade through the day, and what content earns attention from the specific audience that matters
- Coordinate with Community Comms on rapid response for product issues and fast-moving news cycles on social, in step with legal, policy, safety, and security partners
- Manage the drumbeat between flagship launches, deciding which updates become moments and where; while ensuring Anthropic increasingly shows up in podcasts, newsletters, and YouTube
- Grow the bench of voices: coach product and engineering leaders as spokespeople across press, podcasts, and their own accounts, and cultivate credible outside voices who know the work well enough to speak to it
Qualifications
- 10+ years in communications roles, with meaningful time on both "trad" media and new media
- Experience at an AI, developer tools, or frontier technology company, and enough technical depth to read a model card or an API changelog and explain why it matters
- Existing relationships with reporters, newsletter writers, and creators covering AI and developer tools
- Have built programs, not just run them: an employee advocacy or spokesperson program, a monitoring and escalation system, a creator network
- High agency and low ego, with a bias to action, and care about communicating responsibly about AI
Requirements
- 10+ years in communications roles, with meaningful time on both traditional media and new media (social, creators, newsletters, podcasts, YouTube), ideally at an AI, developer tools, or frontier technology company
- Has owned launch communications for model or major product releases end to end: the plan and messaging, tough questions, PR agency coordination, and owned, executive, and employee social, and has managed the drumbeat of smaller updates in between
- Sets proactive social strategy for major company moments: what the company accounts say, how executive and employee voices cascade through the day, and what content earns the specific audience that matters
- Trusted on rapid response for product issues and fast-moving news cycles on social, working in step with legal, policy, safety, and security partners, with the judgment to ship reactive lines without an editor
- Coaches product and engineering leaders as spokespeople across press, podcasts, and their own accounts, and cultivates credible outside voices; existing relationships with reporters, newsletter writers, and creators covering AI and developer tools
- Has built programs, not just run them (an employee advocacy or spokesperson program, a monitoring and escalation system, a creator network), with enough technical depth to read a model card or an API changelog and explain why it matters; high agency, low ego, bias to action
The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.

Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
