In this technical presales role, you will help customers design secure, scalable, and resilient cloud architectures that support their modernization goals. Using Azure’s IaaS and PaaS services, you will guide organizations through migration, modernization, and optimization — translating technical capabilities into significant business outcomes.  

You will collaborate across teams to deliver impactful solutions that enhance agility, reduce costs, and unlock value through AI-powered infrastructure.  

As a Cloud & AI Solution Engineer for the Azure Platform, you will play a key role in helping customers modernize their infrastructure and unlock the full value of Microsoft’s cloud. You will work directly with technical and business stakeholders to design and implement secure, scalable, and resilient architectures that support AI workloads and business-critical applications.  Your goal as a Solution Engineer is to win the technical decision of customers to commit to use Microsoft technology and cloud services. The solution engineer is expected to both own and win customers’ technical decisions, as well as find new opportunities through their contacts and engagements to build a successful business in their territory.

You bring deep expertise in migrating core workloads - including Windows, SQL Server, Linux, PostgreSQL, and Oracle—to Azure. Beyond migration, you lead customers through modernization using the 6R strategy, containerization best practices, and Azure-native services like App Service and AKS, while exploring how AI and intelligent agents can accelerate legacy transformation.  

You also apply strong networking knowledge to design hybrid and cloud-native solutions, including virtual networks, VPNs, and secure routing architectures that meet enterprise performance and compliance needs. You complement this with trusted partner solutions like NetApp, VMware, RedHat, and SAP to ensure a secure, optimized, and scalable migration experience.

Responsibilities

• Achieve technical wins across the portfolio of Azure cloud services you're accountable for.
• Lead the technical journey for Azure migration with customers, using Microsoft processes, tools, demos, programs and partners. Use a consultative and/or Challenger approach, and set clear rules of engagement for extended teams, such as role boundaries and handoff strategies.
• Drive technical sales using demos, proofs of concept and architecture accelerators to shape solution design and enable deployments.
• Lead architecture sessions and technical workshops to speed up Azure adoption.
• Build strategy by turning the agreed customer vision into a clear plan. Address concerns, prevent and remove technical blockers, validate a strong business case for investment, and explain technical complexity in terms of business impact.
• Work with the customer, account team and partners to build and manage an implementation roadmap.
• Keep project decisions, delivery and implementation moving at pace with customers and partners.
• Build trusted relationships with customer platform leads to co-design secure, scalable solutions.
• Resolve technical blockers by working with engineering teams and sharing customer insights.
• Scale through partners by acting as the liaison between partners and the account team. Help partners access resources and processes, identify skill and resource gaps, and share feedback with internal teams to build partner technical capacity.
• Identify and support new pipeline opportunities within customer engagements.
• Maintain deep expertise in cloud migration (Windows, SQL, Linux, PostgreSQL and application workloads), resiliency, security and compliance.
• Continue building knowledge of enterprise applications (SAP, Oracle) and Azure VMware Solution (AVS).
• Represent Microsoft in customer forums and technical communities through thought leadership.

Required/minimum qualifications

Solution Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $96,000 - CAD $177,600 per year.
