About the role
About the opportunity
The Business Development Representative II (Public Sector) plays a critical role in building the pipeline that drives our public sector growth. You’ll partner with Public Sector Account Executives to build relationships across state and local government, education, and special districts, such as utilities, transit agencies, and airports.
You’ll help public sector leaders understand how Dayforce can modernize their workforce management, generate new pipeline ahead of procurement cycles, and help progress opportunities through long, multi-stakeholder buying processes. Success in this role means becoming a trusted strategic partner to your AEs and building quality pipeline that advances and ultimately becomes public sector wins.
Why You’ll Love This Role
Help state and local government agencies, educational institutions, and special districts modernize how they pay, manage, and support the employees who serve the public.
Sell strategically, not by volume: you’ll go deep on accounts and get ahead of procurement before the RFP drops.
Pair your outbound with Dayforce-hosted public sector events that put you in the room with the leaders you’re prospecting.
Partner with seasoned public sector AEs and engage senior leaders on high-impact deals.
Build the enterprise and public sector skills that set you up for long-term career growth.
Dayforce is a global human capital management (HCM) company headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, and Minneapolis, Minnesota, with operations across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), and the Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) region. Our award-winning Cloud HCM platform offers a unified solution database and continuous calculation engine, driving efficiency, productivity, and compliance for the global workforce. Our brand promise – Makes Work Life Better™ – reflects our commitment to employees, customers, partners, and communities globally.
This posting represents an ongoing opportunity within our organization. While there may not be an active vacancy at this time, we encourage interested candidates to apply.
What you’ll get to do
Partner with Public Sector Account Executives to build account plans and strategically target assigned state and local government, education, and special district accounts.
Research accounts and map key stakeholders, from HR, Payroll, Finance, and IT to Procurement, to understand each organization’s HCM needs, challenges, and modernization goals.
Track budget cycles, fiscal year timelines, contract expirations, and procurement signals to time outreach and position Dayforce before formal buying processes begin.
Learn Dayforce’s product suite and use that knowledge to make targeted recommendations that address public sector complexity, such as union agreements, complex pay rules, and compliance requirements.
Generate new relationships and sales opportunities through account-based prospecting. Multithread across personas and levels inside each account through multi-channel outreach (phone, email, social media, webinars, direct mail, and strategic campaigns).
Drive attendance at Dayforce events, conferences, and virtual events, securing meetings for your AEs with key public sector leaders and turning that engagement into qualified pipeline.
Manage multiple AE partnerships while staying consistent in your outreach, engaging senior decision makers, and progressing opportunities through long sales cycles.
Work with your AEs throughout the sales process to build and execute strategies that present a compelling business case to public sector evaluation committees.
Attain quota by creating and executing a business plan with your AE partners.
Skills and experience we value
Bachelor’s degree in Business preferred, or equivalent work experience.
3+ years of sales experience (B2B and Public Sector SaaS preferred).
Strong prospecting, financial, and business analysis skills.
Ability to multithread across departments and levels, building relationships with influencers, champions, and executive decision makers.
Strong business acumen and the ability to connect HCM solutions to an organization’s broader business priorities.
Skill in turning account research and trigger events (leadership changes, budget approvals, contract expirations, modernization initiatives) into relevant, insight-led outreach.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, plus the executive presence to engage VP+ stakeholders with confidence.
Understanding of how public sector organizations buy, including budget cycles, RFPs, and procurement processes.
Patience and persistence to nurture relationships through long, multi-stakeholder buying cycles.
A quality-over-quantity mindset, focused on depth within a named account list rather than high-volume outreach.
Ability to collaborate strategically with multiple AEs and internal teams (Field Marketing, Sales Leadership) on account strategy.
Strong organization, time management, and self-discipline.
A driven, creative, team-success-oriented attitude.
What would make you stand out
2+ years of account-based prospecting experience in an enterprise B2B environment.
3+ years of sales experience generating quality pipeline in public sector or other complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
A track record of sourcing pipeline that converts into Public Sector deals.
Payroll/HRIS direct selling experience.
Prior experience in an Inside Sales, Business Development, or Virtual Sales role.
Experience using a software sales tech stack such as Salesforce, Orum, Govspend, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, ZoomInfo, Outreach, and Sendoso.
