We know that sometimes people can be put off applying for a job if they don't tick every box. If you're excited about working for us and have most of the skills or experience we're looking for, please go ahead and apply. We’d love to hear from you!
About the role
This is a rare opportunity for an ambitious early-career consultant to move out of advisory work and into the heart of a major UK business, working directly alongside our CEO and Chief Transformation Officer.Hargreaves Lansdown is entering an exciting period of change, with significant ambitions for growth, transformation and innovation. We are looking for someone with around 2–4 years' experience in strategy, management consulting or a similarly demanding environment who wants to get much closer to how a business is led, how decisions get made and how strategy gets turned into action.
Sitting within the CEO Office, you will work directly with the CEO and Chief Transformation Officer, with exposure to the wider Executive team and some of HL's most important strategic and transformation priorities.
This is deliberately a broad role. At different points you might be analysing an issue for an executive decision, building a presentation, preparing materials for a Board discussion, researching a strategic question, coordinating a transformation priority or making sure actions from an Executive meeting actually happen.
And, importantly, this is also a hands-on executive office role. You will support the CEO and Chief Transformation Officer with the practical organisation that enables them to operate effectively, including diary management, meeting coordination, logistics and day-to-day administrative support.
We are not looking for someone who wants to advise from the sidelines. We are looking for someone who wants to be in the room, close to the decisions and prepared to roll their sleeves up.
What you'll do:
Work at the heart of our strategic agenda
- Support the CEO and Chief Transformation Officer on key strategic, commercial and transformation priorities.
- Structure and analyse complex business questions, turning information into clear insight and recommendations.
- Undertake market, competitor and industry research to inform executive decision-making.
- Build high-quality analysis, business cases and presentations for Executive and Board discussions.
- Analyse business and commercial performance to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
- Support specific strategic, growth, transformation and corporate development initiatives as required.
Help turn decisions into action
- Maintain visibility of the CEO's and Chief Transformation Officer's key priorities and ensure important actions do not get lost.
- Track key Executive commitments, decisions and deliverables.
- Coordinate activity across functions and work with senior stakeholders to keep priorities moving.
- Help identify dependencies, risks and areas requiring executive intervention.
- Support strategic workshops, leadership sessions and Executive offsites.
- Bring structure and pace to ambiguous or fast-moving pieces of work.
Support transformation and innovation
- Work with the Chief Transformation Officer and teams across HL on priority transformation activity.
- Analyse opportunities to simplify how we work, improve productivity and reduce unnecessary complexity.
- Explore how AI, automation and new technology can improve processes, decision-making and effectiveness.
- Support the development of practical AI and automation use cases.
- Help establish clear measures and reporting to understand whether change is delivering the intended outcomes.
Make the CEO Office work brilliantly
This is an important part of the role, and we want to be transparent about it. You will provide direct executive support to both the CEO and Chief Transformation Officer, including:
- Managing complex diaries and helping prioritise time against the most important business priorities.
- Coordinating meetings, travel, logistics and administrative requirements.
- Preparing agendas, briefing packs, presentations and papers.
- Ensuring the CEO and Chief Transformation Officer are properly prepared for key meetings and decisions.
- Capturing and following up actions and commitments.
- Liaising with senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Supporting preparation for Board, investor, client and regulatory engagements.
- Handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Done well, this isn't simply administration. It gives you an unusually close view of how two senior executives lead, prioritise, make decisions and run a complex organisation.
What we're looking for:
You are likely to have 2–4 years' professional experience, ideally gained in a leading strategy, management consulting or professional services environment.
You will bring:
- Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
- Excellent PowerPoint and Excel capability.
- The ability to take a complex or ambiguous question and turn it into something clear and actionable.
- Strong written communication and the ability to produce high-quality executive materials.
- Commercial curiosity and an interest in what makes businesses perform.
- Excellent organisation and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Confidence working with senior people while having the judgement to know when to challenge and when to listen.
- A genuine interest in AI, technology and how they can change the way organisations operate.
- High levels of discretion and sound judgement.
- A willingness to get stuck into whatever needs doing, whether that's strategic analysis for an Executive discussion or sorting out the logistics for an important meeting.
Experience in financial services or another regulated environment would be useful, but isn't essential.
The person:
We're looking for someone bright, curious and ambitious, but without ego.
Someone who:
- Asks good questions and gets to the heart of an issue quickly.
- Is commercially minded and intellectually curious.
- Enjoys solving problems but also gets things done.
- Is comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities.
- Can switch between big-picture thinking and meticulous attention to detail.
- Builds trust quickly and works well with different personalities.
- Has the confidence to operate around senior executives without needing to be the most senior person in the room.
- Is excited by AI and new ways of working.
- Doesn't think any task is beneath them.
Why this role?
For someone two to four years into consulting, this offers a very different development opportunity. You won't be advising an Executive team from the outside. You'll be working alongside it.
You will get direct exposure to the CEO, Chief Transformation Officer and wider leadership of HL; see first-hand how strategic and commercial decisions are made; and develop an understanding of how a large, regulated business actually operates and transforms.
It is a role for someone who wants to learn quickly, take on significant responsibility and build the experience that could ultimately lead into areas such as strategy, transformation, operations, corporate development or a future Chief of Staff role.
