Teach undergraduate and select graduate course(s) in speech pathology, coordinate graduate externships in school placements, and supervise student clinicians and other duties as assigned.Job Description
The Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology at Miami University invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor or Assistant Lecturer position with an anticipated start in August 2027. This is an on-campus position requiring a regular on-campus presence.
Duties include teaching select speech pathology courses (clinic/academic course(s) at the undergraduate and graduate levels), coordinating graduate externships in school placements, supervising student clinicians, and other duties as assigned. The candidate should be engaged in service at the departmental, College, University, and/or professional discipline levels.
Based on performance, this position is eligible for subsequent annual reappointment with the possibility of promotion to the associate and, subsequently, full rank that includes longer-term continuing contracts.
The Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology has been preparing future professionals for more than 75 years. Our department houses the academic programs serving approximately 275 undergraduate majors and 60 graduate students each year. We have a rigorous undergraduate program designed to prepare students for graduate programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders or Clinical Doctorate in Audiology. Our undergraduate program provides clinical opportunities to every major beginning in their second year of study (sophomore year). Unique to many other programs, our students obtain direct clinical hours in their 4th year of study. A select group of our students conduct empirical research—both within and outside our department. We encourage our students to become well-rounded individuals and seek opportunities to become leaders in their respective clubs and activities.
Our graduate program is regularly ranked in the top 10 of the country of Master’s only programs and in the top 20% of all (over 350) programs nationwide. We are a medium size program that typically has between 25-35 in each cohort. The Miami University Speech and Hearing Clinic is a critical part of our clinical training program. We moved into a beautiful new facility in 2023 which has allowed us to grow to more than 5000 patient contacts annually. We serve Miami University and the greater Oxford community with comprehensive care across the lifespan for audiology, speech, language, voice, fluency, swallowing, cognitive, and assistive technology needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required: A terminal Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders (e.g., PhD, EdD) for appointment as Assistant Teaching Professor or Master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders (e.g., MA, MS) for appointment as Assistant Lecturer. All candidates must hold the ASHA-CCC’s, be eligible for Ohio Licensure, and be eligible for the Ohio school pupil service license/registration upon hire. At least 5 years of experience working in a school setting beyond the clinical fellowship is required.
