About the role
Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track)
Electrical & Computer Engineering
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Temple University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in Fall 2027. Our priority is power and energy systems, broadly defined. Areas of interest include power systems, power electronics, grid modernization and resilience, renewable energy integration, energy storage, and electrified transportation and marine power systems.
We also welcome candidates whose work advances energy systems from neighboring areas, such as control and optimization of energy networks, machine learning and data analytics for the grid, cyber-physical security of energy infrastructure, sensing and monitoring, and energy-efficient electronics. Exceptional candidates in other areas of electrical and computer engineering whose research complements the department’s strengths will also be considered.
The successful candidate will help build the department’s research and teaching program in power and energy and will play a central role in shaping its curriculum and graduate offerings in this field.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate is expected to develop an externally funded research program, supervise graduate students, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, develop new courses in their specialty, and contribute to service in the department, university, and profession.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field by the start date. Candidates should show the potential to build a nationally recognized research program and a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring. Industry or national laboratory experience is welcome.
About the Department
The department offers BS, MS, and PhD programs and conducts research in signal and image processing, including radar, computational imaging, and biomedical applications; control and optimization of dynamic and distributed parameter systems, including optimal control, reinforcement learning, multiagent systems, and robotics; power systems; computer engineering and security, including AI-chip-sensor co-design; and rocketry and space engineering. The department has 12 full-time faculty and about 350 students.
About the College
The College of Engineering enrolls over 1500 students in undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the departments of Bioengineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Engineering Technology & Management, and Mechanical Engineering. Our faculty are engaged in collaborative research across the university, including the colleges of Public Health, Science & Technology, Business, and the School of Medicine.
About the University
Temple University, founded in 1884, is a Carnegie R1 (Very High Research Activity) institution and one of the nation’s largest urban public research universities. The College of Engineering is located on Temple University’s main campus in North Philadelphia, located 1.5 miles from Center City. Faculty and students benefit from the university’s dynamic urban setting, vibrant campus life, and opportunities to contribute to research, teaching, and service that make a meaningful impact locally and globally. This global impact is strengthened by Temple’s thriving international campuses, including TU Rome and TU Japan, where engineering students can study and engineering faculty can visit and teach.
About the Region
