About the role
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Systems Reliability Engineer based in the United States.
As a Senior Systems Reliability Engineer, you will lead reliability and maintainability (R&M) engineering activities across the full lifecycle of advanced unmanned aircraft and defense systems. You will shape system reliability architecture, develop data-driven analyses, and establish testing strategies to ensure mission-critical performance. Working closely with engineering teams and customer stakeholders, you will oversee failure investigations, corrective actions, and reliability verification. Your expertise will help ensure systems meet demanding technical, operational, and regulatory requirements. You will also contribute to continuous improvement by applying digital engineering and AI-enabled tools to reliability processes. This role offers the opportunity to influence next-generation aerospace and defense capabilities in a technically challenging environment.
Accountabilities:
-
Develop and maintain R&M program plans, reliability architecture documentation, and RAM-C (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability-Cost) Rationale Reports.
-
Lead Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMEA/FMECA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Reliability Block Diagram (RBD) development across system architectures.
-
Allocate reliability and maintainability requirements to lower-level systems and components, support trade studies, and maintain traceability between requirements, predictions, and demonstrated performance.
-
Produce reliability predictions using MIL-HDBK-217 and related methodologies, alongside maintainability analyses, Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), Level of Repair Analysis (LORA), and testability/Built-In Test (BIT) assessments.
-
Establish and manage the Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS), ensuring effective failure tracking, data trending, root cause investigations, and corrective action closure.
-
Develop failure definitions and scoring criteria, reliability test plans, and reliability growth strategies, including demonstration testing, Environmental Stress Screening (ESS), and HALT/HASS where applicable.
-
Support qualification test planning, all-up-round testing, and reliability assessments for ground, flight, and live-fire testing.
-
Prepare R&M standards, specifications, procedures, technical reports, and user documentation.
-
Serve as the primary customer contact for R&M matters, presenting analyses, risk assessments, and program updates during milestone and design reviews, including PDR, CDR, TRR, PRR, and Milestone A/B/C reviews.
-
Lead Reliability Scoring Conferences and Corrective Action Boards, coordinate customer data deliverables, and support In-Service Reviews.
-
Coordinate reliability risk mitigation with Manufacturing Engineering, Logistics, Quality, and System Safety teams, including obsolescence, DMSMS, shelf-life, and aging surveillance considerations.
-
Apply digital engineering and AI-enabled solutions, such as predictive maintenance, digital twins, and automated FRACAS analytics, to improve reliability processes and outcomes.
-
Ensure compliance with applicable R&M standards, including MIL-STD-785, MIL-HDBK-217, and GEIA-STD-0009, while incorporating lessons learned and continuous improvement practices.
-
At least 7 years of experience as a Reliability Engineer, R&M Engineer, or in an equivalent reliability-critical engineering role.
-
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Systems, or Electrical Engineering, or Physics.
-
Strong knowledge of MIL-STD-785, MIL-HDBK-217, and other relevant reliability and maintainability standards.
-
Proven experience managing FRACAS processes, including failure tracking, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
-
Demonstrated experience developing and executing reliability test plans, including reliability growth testing, demonstration testing, and Environmental Stress Screening.
-
Experience working directly with customers during R&M reviews, design reviews, and program milestone reviews, particularly PDR, CDR, and Milestone B/C.
-
Strong understanding of system architecture and the decomposition and allocation of R&M requirements.
-
Extensive practical experience with FMEA/FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis, and Reliability Block Diagrams.
-
Proven ability to investigate failures, implement corrective actions, and analyze reliability data and performance trends.
-
Excellent technical writing and presentation skills, including experience preparing program plans, rationale reports, procedures, and technical documentation.
-
U.S. citizenship is required.
-
Master's degree in engineering or a related discipline.
-
10 or more years of progressive reliability and maintainability engineering experience.
-
ASQ Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) certification or equivalent.
-
Experience supporting Department of Defense or Navy R&M programs, including alignment with SECNAV Reliability and Maintainability Engineering guidance.
-
Knowledge of quantitative reliability growth modeling, such as Crow-AMSAA, and Weibull analysis.
-
Experience with maintainability, testability/BIT, LORA, and RCM.
-
Background in missile, hypersonic, or munitions systems, including all-up-round reliability, environmental stress screening, and shelf-life or stockpile surveillance programs.
-
Familiarity with digital engineering and AI-enabled R&M tools, including predictive maintenance, digital twins, and automated FRACAS analytics.
-
Active U.S. security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
-
Annual salary range of $148,000–$219,000, depending on level and qualifications:
-
Level IV: $148,000–$180,000.
