About the role
As a Software Development Engineer (P3) at Zillow, you are a key contributor to your team’s success. You independently deliver non-trivial features and improvements, design solutions to well-scoped problems, and help teammates succeed. You are respected for the quality of your work and your thoughtful participation in team discussions. This role is about mastering your craft, deepening your technical impact, and building the foundation for future growth. In this role you will:
- Work on revenue-generating features that make a real impact on the business, while growing your technical expertise.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and designers across teams to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.
- Be trusted to take ownership of meaningful projects, contribute to system design discussions, and strengthen the reliability and performance of our advertising platforms.
- Work across the stack: React/TypeScript micro-frontends, GraphQL federation, and backend services, plus ad-tech integrations (Google Ad Manager/GPT, Prebid, viewability and identity vendors).
- Ship experiments safely through A/B trial platforms with clear guardrail metrics, rollback paths, and data-informed decisions.
- Use AI coding assistants to amplify your expertise while exercising judgment on when to trust, revise, or set aside generated output.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Technical Program Managers, Ad Ops, and page-owner teams (Search, Home Detail Page, Rentals, iOS/Android) to adapt and extend solutions for advertising use cases.
- Help refine team processes through agile ceremonies; support growth of the team through interviewing and onboarding.
- Continuously learn: seek feedback, and deepen your knowledge of ad technology, front-end performance, and distributed systems
Who you are
- 4+ years designing, coding, and debugging production web applications and backend services.
- Strong proficiency in modern front-end development with React and TypeScript; experience with micro-frontend architectures, server-side rendering, and web performance optimization.
- Solid backend experience in Node.js/TypeScript and/or Java (Spring Boot); comfortable designing and consuming GraphQL APIs (federated graphs a plus).
- Experience with AWS and container/Kubernetes-based platforms, CI/CD (GitLab or similar), and observability tooling such as Datadog.
- Rigorous about quality: unit and integration testing (Jest, Playwright or equivalent), code review, monitoring.
- A track record of independently delivering well-scoped features with quality; communicates clearly with technical and non-technical partners, and seeks guidance when facing ambiguity.
- BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
