Job Description
Help people get the right palliative care and support, sooner.
For people living with a terminal illness, receiving the right support early can make an enormous difference, giving them and those important to them more opportunity to understand their options, make informed choices and plan for what matters most.
We are looking for two compassionate and experienced Clinical Nurse Specialists to join a new Marie Curie service working across South Liverpool.
Working within GP practices, community hubs and other locations across the PCN, you will be part of a new team focused on proactively supporting people with palliative and end-of-life care needs and helping them access coordinated, person-centred care earlier.
This is an exciting opportunity to use your palliative-care expertise beyond a traditional clinical setting. You will manage a caseload of people with palliative-care needs while building strong relationships across primary and community care, helping create a more joined-up experience for people and those important to them.
A significant part of your role within this new service will involve outreach, supporting appropriate referrals, coordinating care and building connections across services.
As an autonomous practitioner, you will holistically assess people with complex needs and plan, implement and evaluate specialist treatments and interventions that support symptom management. You will provide specialist palliative-care advice and use your clinical expertise and professional judgement to respond to changing and sometimes complex needs.
You will support advance care planning and sensitive conversations about future wishes and preferences, helping people and those important to them make informed decisions about their care. Working closely with GP practices and professionals across the multidisciplinary team, you will help coordinate care across organisational boundaries and advocate for care that reflects each person’s needs, choices and preferences.
You will report into the Marie Curie Clinical Nurse Manager and work alongside fellow Clinical Nurse Specialists, a Senior Healthcare Assistant and professionals across the PCN.
As you will work across different community locations and manage your own caseload, you will need to be comfortable working autonomously, prioritising competing demands and using your professional judgement. Just as importantly, you will enjoy building relationships, bringing services together and advocating for people and those important to them.
Above all, you will understand that excellent palliative care starts with the person. You will be confident having complex and sensitive conversations about serious illness, dying and future care, while ensuring each person’s wishes and priorities remain at the heart of decision-making.
Hours: 30 hours per week (0.8 FTE), Monday to Friday within PCN service hours
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £39,959 - £48,117 per annum, pro rata, aligned to NHS Agenda for Change Band 6
Vacancies: 2 x 0.8 FTE positions
Location: South Liverpool PCN, working across GP practices, community hubs and other community locations
Interviews: Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 November 2026, in person at Liverpool Hospice
Qualifications
- Is a Registered Adult Nurse with current NMC registration.
- Holds a relevant Nursing Degree and relevant post-registration qualification at a minimum of Level 6.
- Has experience working within specialist palliative care.
- Has the knowledge and clinical skills to assess and respond to complex palliative and end-of-life care needs.
- Is confident having complex and sensitive conversations with people and those important to them about serious illness, dying, advance care planning and future wishes.
- Has strong clinical assessment, decision-making and symptom-management skills.
- Can work autonomously, managing and prioritising their own caseload while recognising when collaboration or escalation is needed.
- Can build trusted relationships with patients, families and professionals across different organisations.
- Works effectively within multidisciplinary and multi-agency environments.
- Can make appropriate referrals and help coordinate care across different services.
- Is motivated, proactive and comfortable working across community and primary-care settings.
- Is committed to delivering compassionate, equitable and person-centred palliative care.
- Holds a current valid driving licence and has access to a vehicle with business insurance.

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will have opportunities to provide expert guidance to other teams, support multidisciplinary learning, contribute to quality improvement and act as a clinical role model and advocate for person-centred care.
For someone who enjoys clinical practice but also wants the opportunity to influence care beyond individual patient contacts, this role offers an exciting balance.
What's in it for you?
You will be joining a new service at an exciting point in its development, giving you the opportunity to help shape how we reach and support people with palliative and end-of-life care needs across South Liverpool.

Company Description
Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end-of-life charity. We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness, they’re likely to die from.
The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life. Right now, almost one in three people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives.
We want a different society than the one we live in now. Our mission for the next five years is to close the gap in the number of people missing out on what they need at the end-of-life, through 3 ways:
- Growing and transforming our direct care and support
- Delivering more practical information and support
- Leading in shaping the end-of-life experience
